I understand his right to appeal, however, if the Lions lose the WDF and he got to play, this gets carried over to 2008 at best.

Isn't he a FA going into 2008?

In theory, the WDF could be the last game he ever plays in the CFL if he chooses to go to the NFL.

IMHO, it's not reasonable for the CFL to allow a suspension to not be enforced for the NEXT game, which just happens to be the WDF.

Nothing against him or the Lions, but he should not be dressed on Sunday.

08 is his option year, he could get NFL interest

If this had happened in game 1 though about 16, there would have time to allow a review and a suspension to be upheld or rescinded.

We're now 4 days away from the WDF.

Regardless of the outcome of this situation, protocols need to be put in place to deal with fairly expediting a decision and an appeal.

IF a suspension is served before an appeal/arbitration is done, what's the point of an appeal? That's like going to prison for a crime, serving your entire sentence, and then being allowed to appeal. The best you can get is a verdict of "oops, you were innocent".

He doesn't comment on Jiminez specifically, saying it would show a "lack of class" to publicly berate him.

well he took a costly suspension at the wrong time of the year, he has missed key blocks resulting in injury to your main QB, could be the straw that costs him his job. It is merely speculation but it is a very good reason to ensure the suspension is taken care of this year

Yeah lets see this line has allowed the fewest sacks and has provided enough holes for Smith to lead the league in rushing, but because he missed one block he is going to be replaced. At this rate the whole league will be replacing offensive lineman. You are either grasping at straws Wildthing or are uninformed?

he is playing a spot typically played by canadians so he is expendable and mistakes like letting the best QB in the league get hit and hurt come back to haunt guys.

Of course some could say it has worked out for the better as that was the opening that Jarious Jackson needed? Leading the Lions to a 14 win season.

You can have Rough Play called before the whistle, but at the same time a play that would get a Rough Play penalty AFTER the whistle might not get the penalty if it was BEFORE the whistle.

So again the whistle is key because regardless of what type of hit it was, if it was AFTER the whistle then nothing matters - it was wrong and Jiminez should sit and/or get fined. However, if it happened BEFORE the whistle, then the type of hit becomes extremely important and we move to the next level to determine punishment, if any. But as I said, if it was after the whistle, then there is no need to look further - he sits or worse.

What is needed is better overall officiating in the first place, so that players and fans have some faith in the competence and consistency of the officials. Then, when that is done, there should be no appeal allowed on a league ruling of a suspension if it is only for one game. There should be an ability by the league to suspend a player for two games to a full season or even indefinitely as well, with a timely appeal and review allowed for in those cases. No arbitration.

I can only point to the scuffle in Regina to make my point. Rasouli was suspended after the fact, but was not penalized at all on the field. He should have been. More penalties to other players on both teams were probably in order as well. That incident alone points to the need for better officials.

If Jiminez did indeed do what it is alleged he did, he should be suspended for the rest of this season and even into next year, IMO. I know that there is no allowance at present for more than a one game suspension, but I'm saying that there should be.

I don't know if they changed the limitation of suspensions recently but it's hard as a Bomber fan to not forget that our OL ( Dyson ) was suspended the following season for 3 games. While he may have been a dirty player, the ultimate suspension was for a cumulative series of events and IIRC he wasn't disqualified or even penalized in the last game he played which led to his suspension.

Due to the magnitude of the suspension ( pay wise ) he choose to not return to the CFL.

So if they could do that then, why is it no longer an option any longer?


This is a generalized question and has nothing specifically to do with the Jiminez situation. As I mentioned earlier, the CFL needs to be able to make these decisions and enforce them in some means that is fair to the player and the CFL.

Dragging out appeals for fines or suspensions is not in anyone's best interest.
