Hits on the QB

The next Rider (or any) fan I hear spouting about dirty Rob Murphy....I don't know what....

After Maurice Lloyd's hit on Ray the first couple minutes of the game and the returned fumble for a touchdown. I can't believe that hit wasn't called. That was as blatant as they get! :bang:

Re: Hits on the QB

I agree. It was a penalty that should have been called. How the heck do the ref's miss something like that.

Re: Hits on the QB

question

are the late hits on the QB today as they were in Garcia and Fluties day or has it got worse?

If its got worse the cfl needs to get a grip and starting protecting more by stiffer fines and penatlies

Hardnose football is one thing - cheap and late hits is not

If the CFL wants to draw quality players from the united states and is then concerned about longevity in the league and maintaining a quality of life - something needs to be done

Re: Hits on the QB

Here it is for ya folks, straight from the idiot (me) that's been saying this for two years.

The League doesn't care. They paid lip service to it a few weeks ago, then swept it under the carpet.
The CFLPA doesn't care.
Ken Miller doesn't care.
Danny Maciocia doesn't care. (See Shabazz, Sideeq)

Talking about this won't change anything. Only someone becoming a quadraplegic will.

Oh and...Lloyd went back at Ray and tried again in the 2nd, but missed. Still got called for rough play though. Proulx must have been off in lala land to call THAT one.

/rant off.

mightybuck: it's FAR worse now, no question. And it's obviously being coached.

I dont even think quadrapleic incident would change things.....someone who have to die on the field for them to notice....or at least it seems.

Re: Hits on the QB

There were some hits on the quarterback that was called tonight which wasn't called last week. Inconsistency. :x

Re: Hits on the QB

I will have to admit I cringed when I saw the hit on Ray, and was surprised when there was no call - Proulx thought he "made up for it" with a phantom spearing call on Lloyd just before the end of the half. We sure got away with one there...

Not that the call would have made much of a difference in the game...Trestman has said that the Rider defense plays "violently" so it's to be somewhat expected. And before anyone jumps on me for defending Maurice Lloyd, I have never called Murphy a dirty player (see first post) - he's just very hardnosed and gets rather excited playing a game he obviously loves and plays with enthusiasm and sometimes gets carried away.

Frankly, I wish the Lions defence played a little more on the edge as the Riders D does :sigh: Having the offensive players looking over their shoulders can make a huge difference.
Thank you for everything you did for OUR Lions Mr.Ackles, we will never forget you...RIP

Would never say that about you, never fear.

Look, there are players on EVERY team that are a little over the edge; Lloyd and Perry with the helmet to helmet stuff, Phillion used to go after people's knees, Otis Floyd took two roughing calls last night that I was not pleased with. (More so now, because I finished the Game DVD editing, and I'm watching the first dub now....grrrr..Otis.)

Murphy is a different case. The league, press, and Rider fans hate him because he attempts to intimidate other players. He doesn't try to "hurt" or injure them the way Lloyd, Sideeq Shabazz and Perry do (especially qbs, since Murph plays O line), but other players are justifiably humiliated by being held on the ground (Chick, Braidwood, Goss, etc.) so they beak to the press, and the fans pick up on it. If you've ever played the game, you know how crucial intimidation is as a tool.

As much as the people at RF say that there is no way they would want Murph on their team, that is complete bunk. Saskatchewan plays to intimidate as you noted, and he'd be a purrfect fit there, just as Lloyd is. They'd sell their first born for him, and everyone knows it. It's not a bad thing to dislike other players; look at Lloyd for proof.

Sooner or later, something will happen to these kind of guys behind the play or at the bottom of the pile.

I'm guessing based on Shabazz getting called twice for infractions (1 roughing the passer, 1 unnecessary roughness) for late hits on Pierce in BC's last game against the Esks.

Just not seeing how that ties in with the helmet to helmet hits talked about here.....

There are dozens upon dozens of RTP calls every year....In that game Shabazz was called when he went in on Buck (who may have been making one of the all-time worst slides I've seen), but was rightly called even though he completely let up on the hit...... the second wasn't even a tackle.....it was a shoulder check that again was flagged.....he never went near him with the helmet or even drove him to the ground......that one was ticky-tack at best.....and should not have been considered as an attempt to injure or anything.

Shabazz was guilty of being a hair late on both, but both he completely pulled up on......it's a far cry from what I believed to be the point of topic here.

Ohhh thanks for clearing that up for us! We saw it differently before you explained what really happened.
