Boy I felt like I went back in time to a couple of seasons ago... winning ugly and knowing your shortcomings are going to bite you in the ass at some point down the road.
The difference is this is a far better defensive unit than that team but this sputtering offence will catch up to us sooner than later. What happened to the promised vertical game that was supposed to be the biggest change in our offence? Why does it take until midway thru the 4th quarter that we finally start going down field to test some inexperienced DBs that were in vanilla coverage for most of the night?
That was as tenative and deliberate as I have seen Buck look in his three years here and one of his greatest strengths has been seeing the field.

Buck was checking down to the safe crossing paterns all night, mostly to Clermont, when the Cats went to zone coverage and doubled Geroy over top.
The Lions threw some deep balls, including one to Simmons on the opening drive in man coverage, one to Clermont in the second quarter in man coverage, which was overthrown, and a couple to Jackson and one to Rodgers, all in the fourth quarter. Geroy Simon didn't have a deep ball thrown his way, even when he had single coverage.

Re: 2005 all over again?
I had the same bit of deja vu kind of feeling. I just hope our offensive coordinators can make adjustments on the fly here, and not have the team beat their heads against the wall all season like it seemed to go in 2005. We all know how that ended. Still, a win is a win. Time for concern, not panic.

At some point a loss might actually be the best thing to happen to this team. Like '05, we see a lot of things that need to be corrected (most notably on offence) but because we keep winning it doesn't seem like as big a deal as it should. In '05, everything was rosy since we kept winning. I'm worried that the team may fall into the trap of not thinking these concerns are worth being concerned about in the first place because of all the wins we're piling up. Something is seriously wrong with our offence but I'm not really sure if it's actually the OCs. Personally, I think the QB play this year hasn't been up to par and that's what is killing us the most. Buck tonight was simply horrendous IMO.

I am not as concerned about wins alone lulling the team into a false sense of security because there should be more than enough players and coaches still here from 05 to remember how that went and not let it happen again. A game like this, even with the "W" should be more than enough of a wake up call. Nothing like a loss to impact the situation on a team. Remember last season when we were 2 - 3 out of the gate and the D had an airing out that seemed to get things on track for us last season. I don't see why the O wouldn't begin that now, as they have been brutal in sustaining drives, although I don't expect to see that happen until a major loss occurs. Currently they have the built in excuses to use, OC by committee and DD's injury. Not hearing the right things from Wally that he yet thinks the offence is a serious concern. He pointed to nearly 400 yards last night and how defences around the league have the edge.
Fair enough ... but the bar has been set high in B.C. and the excitement Simon has generated in the last 4 years has gone a long way towards seeing 30,000-plus crowds on a regular basis. They better not forget that.
IMHO it is going to take a loss, perhaps a lopsided one, for some of the offence's issues to be addressed.

He looked great until his first pick. Then, he got so out of sinc. It was like a different guy on the field. The good thing is Buck seems confident and I'm betting for a quick bounce back next week.

Perhaps with a loss we will see a personnel adjustment a la Young or Warren again this year??????

IMHO Buck looked good for the first part of the game. He looked confident and showed some real promise. It's just unfortunate that it had to fall apart for him. I suspect that he re-injured his hand vs. ribs as some of the passes were not even close to being on the mark. IMO if we could get a healthy QB through one game we might be able to formulate some kind of synergy.
All we need is one game with out a QB injury to push forward and get our O in line (no pun intended)

I thought the defence looked a lot more 'human'. Lumsden had a monster game and other teams will try stuff based on what worked for the Ti-cats. I wasn't surprised this was a close game and the Stamps should be a good team to see how things are gonna go. Hopefully this was just an 'off' game for our defence but there is no question that the offence has had more than it's share of 'off' games already.
