I've only watched the Sean Whyte Arrow up if that's the name. I thought it was more information than I'd be sharing but he's smart so he know's what he's doing.

Your view here may well be spot on.
Maybe a lot more information than most would share but that's what makes the 6 part series so compelling. It delves into the behind the scenes lives of 3 players dealing with differing circumstances and challenges.

Re: David Mackie retires

David Mackie already has a new job. He's been hired as Executive Director of the CFLPA. Last year he was involved with the CFLPA as 3rd Vice-President and one of the three Player Reps for the Lions. TJ Lee and Maxime Rouyer were the other two Player Reps.

Great position for him. Another retired player with Vancouver connections, Peter Dyakowski, has been filling the role on an interim basis.

And now we have it, that intriguing last line of his retirement statement explained. Congrats to Mr. Mackie.

I'm thinking that while he announced his retirement previously it wasn't a case of deciding to retire first then having this gig fall into his lap. I think for some time now he had been going thru the process of applying for the job, interviews etc and was just waiting for the PA executive to make their final decision before deciding to continue his playing career or retire. He must've had the job already offered to him when he announced his retirement. He just had to finalize contract details before the PA could announce his hiring.

Re: David Mackie retires

Fitting that his name is David as he will be going up against a Goliath in the CFL. Hoping he can make a difference and wishing him the best of luck.

Nice to see Mackie get this opportunity. I am now a lot less disappointed with his Lions retirement.

Re: David Mackie retires

It makes sense that he was lining up something for his retirement when you take both the 3 Down articles into consideration.
Most of these Canadian players I believe work on that before leaving football.

They had a selection process commence in August 2024 for Exec Director and Mackie won the job but no mention if Dyakowski as interim ED was a candidate.

I know from 3 Down that Mackie won a board seat in the March 2024 election and Dyakowski lost his bid in that election.

Then Peter Dyakowski was appointed as Interim Exec Dir in August 2024 with this statement:
The CFLPA will begin an extensive search for a permanent Executive Director in the coming months. In the meantime, Dyakowski will work closely with the CFLPA’s leadership team, staff, and membership to ensure a seamless transition and to continue advancing the Association's key initiatives
I think the note of "seamless transition" refers to the moving on of Brian Ramsay, not that Dyakowski wasn't going to be their permanent Exec Dir.
