Leos sign QB Brennan Armstrong

Interesting, potentially big signing. Left-handed quarterback's scrambling and ability to throw on the run seems well-suited to the Canadian game. Like a Lulay 2.0 but from a bigger program (North Carolina State).

That's interesting, David. Is this in response to VA's injury? Do we know the extent of said injury? Here's a brief summary on Armstrong from NFLDraftScout.com:

Appears to have good arm strength (albeit with somewhat poor mechanics), and, although lacking great speed, he appears to be an elusive runner with good size.

Re: Leos sign QB Brennan Armstrong

Sort of off topic but there was a reference in the 3D article about him struggling to get his footing after transferring to NC State. I've seen similar comments about several NCAA players in recent years. After using the transfer portal for their senior years to go to bigger programs to enhance their resumes many of them seem to struggle or see their playing time significantly reduced. It's something that has me wondering if Kurtis Rourke transferring this year will help or hurt his 2025 draft stick.

The GM has only himself to blame for the failure to ensure that when VA got dinged the backup is ready to actually play.

My view is less disappointment than anger as I told friends that the Lions run was only going to be as good as VA being on his game and not getting dinged up.

The BC system does little to nothing to instil confidence in a back up as evidenced by Rourke getting little playing time during the Reilly reign yet they knew he could actually play and knew their system.

My sense is that this signing is to bolster QB depth and has likely been in the works for some time. If it was related to VA's injury, it would have been a veteran.

Highly unlikely that Armstrong will see the field in 2024.

As for VA, it has been reported that this is a "week to week" injury and not long-term. Now that the swelling has gone down, he says it is better than expected. Probably this week and next if I had to guess, but 3-game is not out of the realm of possibility.

VA really needs to give himself up more and know when to go down instead of trying to do too much with his feet and fight through defensive tackles.
