Another DE type now - LOL
Bagayogo is a solid pick though IMO - cornerback skills and could maybe play there or provide overall secondary depth.
Lions draft
Moderator: Team Captains
It’s a reflection of the Lions’ roster and coaching staff that six of their seven draft picks are defensive players. The only offensive selection was OL Troy Kowal, taken with the third last pick in the eighth and final round. Here’s a breakdown of the team’s draft class from bclions.com.

Maybe there will be a way to carry all of Betts, Menard, Cherry, Archibald, Pickett and 1st pick Beimy on the roster this season ?

According to the 3D analysis of Bemiy he has played both DT and DE in college. He's also played as light as 250 and as heavy as 270.
The 24-year-old spent time at defensive end and defensive tackle during his collegiate career, playing as light at 250 pounds and as heavy as 270 pounds. He made 163 total tackles, 38.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one knockdown over 49 career games.
Though he expects to start his CFL career playing more at defensive tackle, Bemiy doesn’t have a preference between the two spots.
“On the inside, it’s really gritty. You get double teams, it’s just different. On the outside, you’ve got a little more room, especially with the CFL rules you get a yard (off the ball),” said Bemiy. “I’d say that’s the main difference is how much space you have.”

Be very nice if he could pan-out as a guy who could play reps at both DE & DT as Menard can. His 13 reps at the bench test at the CFL Combine (compare to Menard's 29 reps) does not suggest a lot of brute strength to help inside, and if adding weight to play there takes away from his quickness as a pass rusher, then that might pigeon hole him at just DT. At least he was a productive player in US college ball, but i think more at DE. IF they wanted more of a pure DT guy, there were far superior picks IMO, but maybe the versatility factor was important?
I think the Lions tried to draft athletes who could bolster their woeful special teams rather than simply rotate on the DL or at LB. Losing Kevin Francis to Edmonton in free agency hurt. He led the league in special teams tackles last year but I don't know if he ever saw the field as a linebacker.
Unless there are injuries: One of archibald, Pickett, deballie is gone, One is on PR, and other is 21st cdn. This is year 2 for them. Sink or swim
even if bemiy sucks, he’s going to get a year to improve.

Agreed except for Debaille. He is a Global and proved to be a very good one. He was arguably the best non-punter Global in the league given he was taking a regular spot in the 8 man DL rotation and performing as well as any other rotational DT be it NAT or American.
Bemiy should be an upgrade with more upside than both Archibald and Pickett who were 3rd and 5th round picks. BC also can't rest their laurels on Betts and Menard. Menard turns 33 in July. He has 2 years at $147K left on a deal that will take him through 2024. Betts at 28 has one more year at $180K. $327K is a lot of money for one position. If Betts puts in another year like last it will cost even more to keep him beyond 2023. If so it will be difficult to justify keeping Menard beyond this season. It becomes extremely important to be proactively looking at the future without Menard because it could well happen as early next offseason. Bemiy could be that key piece. 1 year of development could position him to replace Menard should BC need to shed some salary next offseason to retain Betts. The salary difference of roughly $75K could be very handy in keeping Betts plus retaining others.
It's a braindead management group that looks at the draft only with thoughts about the upcoming season. When you're drafting you must be looking 2 and 3 years down the road and how the current roster might look then. When you're assessing a prospect you're thinking what he can potentially do for you for the next 2 to 6 years. Even if they have some depth in positions they should always be looking to draft upgrades from journeyman calibre depth to potential starters down the road.

There would be the possibility of going all Canadian at DEs with Betts, Menard, and competition between Archibald, Pickett & Beimy for rotation time (Archibald & Pickett have the year of CFL roster experience now and both had quite better strength in bench reps at Combine) . BUT - they didn't sign vet Lemon for nothing.Qman wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 2:36 pmUnless there are injuries: One of archibald, Pickett, deballie is gone, One is on PR, and other is 21st cdn. According to J.J. Adams, Neil McEvoy is high on Bemiy as a potential starter.
Plans and circumstance come together for B.C. Lions in CFL Draft
McEvoy said the draft went pretty much as the Lions expected, and he gave his team an 'A' grade.“At the combine and his film and everything else showed that he’d be able to come in and compete for a starting spot and help us on special teams and possibly take some good defensive reps in 2023. We saw those traits and obviously a guy that again, when he was available, we were easy to make that pick.”

Looks like they are using the global spot for a new long snapper.Hambone wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 3:27 pmAgreed except for Debaille. He is a Global and proved to be a very good one. DL you want elite Americans. It’s most important group after QB. Keep it super fresh if it’s not eliteOV:54-40 wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 3:54 pmThere would be the possibility of going all Canadian at DEs with Betts, Menard, and competition between Archibald, Pickett & Beimy for rotation time (Archibald & Pickett have the year of CFL roster experience now and both had quite better strength in bench reps at Combine) . They will shuffle this around but looks kinda like.
1st group 40 plays betts, banks, baron, Teuhema
2nd group 20 plays menard, cherry, ?, lemon
You got fox, bemiy, archibald, Pickett, deballie competing for ?
Depends how they use DIs (flintoft, Williams, lemon, and ?). ? = fox, 2nd down LB, or extra DB
Lions said the reason they signed lemon is new ratio rule (only plays 25-30 plays a game)

They aren't restricted to dressing one Global. Any additional Global(s) suited up gets classed as a National. In mid-September last year they added former Elks LB Maxime Rouyer whose status is as a Global. He played the final 7 games plus the 2 playoff games for BC. Debaillie also played in all games Rouyer suited up for as he would go on to play all 20 regular season and playoff games. While Rouyer was a Global he counted as a National in the games he played while Debaillie also played.

The Lions have announced the signing of five of their seven recent 2023 draft picks. DB Siriman Bagayogo (Round 2,14th overall) has been invited to the Kansas City Chiefs minicamp while fellow DB Charlie Ringland (Round 5, 43rd overall) is recovering from knee surgery and won’t be available until 2024.
