Call me old school...and I love Jeff, remember him from the early 90's, man wears his heart on his sleeve, but I'll tell you what, not sure if the man wants to be a football coach or a celebrity at this point in his life...if he spends 10 percent of the time on Special teams, as he does on his Twitter account, we will not only have the best special team in the CFL, but the best in the universe...not sure if this is a good sign, at his point in his life...your thoughts...

Reinebold earned some notoriety last year as a an NFL analyst for Sky Sports in London, and that probably raised his social media profile. For now, I don't care if he spends more time on Twitter than on his coaching duties. I still expect the Lions' special teams to be better than they were last year.

Meh, the guy knows special teams like the back of his hand. Who cares if he posts vids of his off-season life in Hawaii? I know he'll come up to Kamloops prepared and get our ST units coached up. I feel really good about his signing here. The guy can flat-out motivate!

I'm with Matt and David on this one. I think it is precisely Reinebold's off-beat personality that makes him such a good ST coach. ST is one area where you can do some off-the wall and creative play-preparation and play-calling. I'm thinking that having a combination of a "driven to succeed" personality with a creative bent is a good thing (for us).

Hey hunsperger. Regarding your concerns, have a look at this video and tell me this guy is not completely "dialled in" to the job at hand. This was one of the most important off-season signings in my book, by virtue of the importance of special teams and how disorganized we've been in recent years. Guys falling asleep on fakes, not blocking the right men on punt team, not holding up the gunners on punt returns....I think this is about to change with a demanding and highly motivational coach that's going to hold guys accountable.

Reinbold was part of the Lions coaching staff in the mid 80s. Does anyone recall what position he coached back then?

Got me pumped just watching the video.

As noted a few times, I had the privilege to see him at a coaching clinic in his first go around with the Lions. He had the old video going, and it was impressive, in the attention to detail, the planning.

His manner is also very, very persuasive. The motorcycles, the tattoos, his missteps in Winnipeg, they can distract from what a solid coach he is. And the players do buy in. Oh yes.

I certainly doubted Reinbold's abilities as a HC. I was never all that warm and fuzzy about him as a DC. However I've never doubted his abilities as STC. Special teams and Reinbold just seem to be made for each other. He was born to coach STs.

In a grander football sense, mini-camp is usually like kindergarten. Nothing too strenuous for players who don’t see pads for weeks. Most never even make it to main camp. But Reinebold is grinding and growling, pushing for more. It’s April, but Reinebold is screaming as if the Lions had lost six of their last seven, which is actually how they ended last November.

Yet moments later after the last session, Reinebold insists on taking a team picture, like a counselor might suggest of kids at summer camp for the last time. This is how the new/old special teams coordinator develops ohana on a CFL team. Football is family.

The changes in the front office involving Ed Hervey and Rick Lelacheur represent the biggest facelift with the Lions but a very close second in importance might be the alterations in Wally Buono’s coaching staff, to some the basis for the team’s first non-playoff appearance in two decades.

There’s an appeal to Lotusland that is inescapable for Reinebold, who had interest in the head coaching vacancies the last few years at UBC and SFU and decided he had to pull himself away from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to come west before it was too late.

When Buono made it clear he won’t coach past this season, Reinebold made his move. He settled, for the time being at least, not far from where the head man was renting at the start of last season in Crescent Beach to create the purrfect fit. A year with the winningest coach in CFL history and free time steps from the Pacific Ocean. Come by and visit anytime, Reinebold tells an inquisitor. He is, quite frankly, another reason fans find the CFL engaging.

Old school meets new school. No contest.

And Wally is first and foremost a survivor. He does adapt, albeit reluctantly, when he absolutely has to.

We were schooled, tricked and embarrassed repeatedly on STs, with a carved in stone attitude against "trick plays.'' With Reinebold, that old attitude is gone. Credit to the old fox Wally.

Now, about Wally's preferred old school, conservative approach to defence, and his reliance on what some see as unsatisfactory pass protection leadership ...

Too harsh a judgment? Well we missed the playoffs and were constantly out-coached, imo.

We have seen adjustments, albeit much belated.
