Think about it, the schemes that they run with the two best LB's in the league aren't working, by trading one of them, the other may actually play MLB as a run stopper. Plus, the Lions should be able to pry a good DL out of the trade. They idea of having pressure that actually wants to get to the QB would help out the DB's a little and they need every bit of help that they can get.

Actually, Rammer isn't the only person to propose a Bighill or Sollie trade.

TSN 1040 talk show host Matt Sekeres who knows a thing or three about the game (he was an Ottawa Renegades beat reporter several years ago for the Globe and Mail), proposed this scenario on the air a couple of weeks ago. Trade one of the two impact linebackers for a Canadian starter (et al.) and you still have solid up-and-coming linebacking prospects in Alex Hoffman-Ellis (who's getting more and more reps) and Canadian Bo Lokombo.

Lowell Ullrich even mentioned this trade suggestion in his Province piece today. He thinks it has merit, or at the very least is intriguing but recognizes that Wally Buono won't be confused for Jays' ("wheeler dealer") GM Alex Anthopoulos anytime soon.

I can't see anyone giving up a Canadian starter for Bighill. Perhaps a team might consider it for Sol E but he's very well paid and not all teams either need a MLB or have the ability to trade a starting Canadian. That requires an adjustment to the SMS and that is best done during an off season not in season.

OTOH, Winnipeg is said to be trying to trade Chris Greaves?

I would see Mark Washington fired long before considering trading one of Solly or Biggie. Not to mention the backlash this will have on a fanbase that is currently waning, it's a terrible idea through and through.

Why not just do some better recruiting like other teams do ? If they can find good DL , why not BC ? At any rate , a trade for a DL would really make no difference if BC D keeps playing with the same game plan .

You could escort Joe Montford to the fountain of youth and suit him up and it isn't going to fit the primary problem with this defense, which is scheme. When you have a coaching problem, trading a roster strength for help at another position manages to make your roster weaker overall and make another position less bad, while doing nothing to fix the core problem of a bad scheme.

If any of us thought the Xs and Os of the defense were solid, but we were lacking the personnel to effectively execute said scheme, it would be a different discussion. But at this point in time, trading the talent we do have would do us little to no good.

So you want to trade away the younger, better Solly or Bighill for 32 year old, now ineffective John Chick? Why don't we give them Andrew Harris while we're at it?

Yes. You require a substantial asset in a trade to get substance in return, but when that "substance" you're targeting is John Chick, there's a huge problem.

There really is no quick fix. But trading Solomon or Bighill is certainly not the answer either. Trading one of them for John Chick makes us significantly worse now, and in the future. At this point our best bet is to hope for an NFL cut airlift, since I don't see the team revamping their schemes and philosophy (at least until Washington is fired which could/should come no later than the end of the season).

Even signing Keron Williams is a much better idea than trading away Elimimian or Bighill. I still maintain that the idea of trading either of those two is stupid.

There is no player based asset you can acquire to overcome poor coaching.
