No doubt Matt and all members would like the list made public and the sooner the better. They. Can't get as many stories if it's confidential. If it was public they could start grilling GMs and coaches as to why they made the decisions they did. They could start calling all the players to get their reaction to being left unprotected and to see what they thought of the GM for not protecting them. They'd have a field day with the Twitter-sphere comments. I can appreciate how much they'd want to see the lists publicized. Without that there is no pre-draft controversy they can report on or better yet stir up.sj-roc wrote: I don't have strong views one way or the other on this issue, each side has its merits but I think you've given some of the best pro-confidentialty arguments here, Hambone. Sekeres has been very outspoken on the other side of the coin to the point that it would probably make for some good radio to hear you two debate this on air.

I think the CFL being a bit too secretive on this is missing a good marketing opportunity.
Even fan boards can be said to be hurtful to players and families and friends and of course they can be if they read them and don't like what fans say so the argument that might players not feel good is not that huge an issue.
As to GMs getting questioned, well that is a good thing to keep the CFL in the news and for the GMs and coaches it is part of their job. GMs like Joe Mack and Ed Hervey don't want the media in their faces but others like Wally can be pretty clear and candid about the business realities they face.
Skulsky's comments on the drop in attendance could be deemed tossing JC under the bus even though the HC is accountable for a lot of the failures here. But I think with the media coverage and games on demand at TSN, etc fans today are smarter than in the old days when not all games were seen on TV and fans didn't have youtube to go to so had to take the news as the gospel as said by teams and the reporters. Now they have there own views and can generate momentum for positions that require business to listen to.
Given the customer is always right - the CFL needs to heed the fan interest here.

Or they risk this:
"Albrecht's Law - Intelligent people, when assembled into an organization, will tend toward collective stupidity."

If I were a player, I'd be a lot more upset if I didn't know until Ottawa drafts me that I was unprotected. I hope that every GM will be as frank and open as Wally seems to be with his players. They always seem to know where they stand. This is a business. The only people who are being kept in the dark about the process are the fans and media.

I don't see LaRose getting protected, he's hopefully getting cut anyway. Parker has far more upside, thus is more valuable than JRL.

I agree with most of these the predictions, This was very well done, (and looks like it took some time!)
I would only switch Courtney Taylor for Stefan Logan in the first round. We are pretty deep at WR, and Logan was a BIG part of the O when he was put in.
I want to be a optimistic as much as I can, but i dont see Demarco or Pierce getting picked. If teams really are looking for the future then,
Burris,
Kevin Glenn and Tate
Zach Collaros
Kerry Joseph and Matt Nichols
Would be left unprotected. Since the team will be so-so, id rather have an experienced qb to maybe steal a game or 2. If this played out, I'd take Burris or Glenn or even Joseph.
But hey I hope Ottawa likes Demarco or Pierce!
When it comes to the protections for Canadians,
I Don't see Haidara over Iannuzzi, only because why would Wally sign him to a new deal then leave him unprotected? (other then that, it can go either way on those guys, they're very even i'd say)
I dont see any reason to protect Paris Jackson or JR Larose, Just because i dont see Ottawa saying to themselves, "They can fill a need for us." I would roll the dice with them, and protect 2 other people.
