Will this be the main story in the build up to the game?
In Eastern Final Glenn was seeking revenge on Winnipeg and we saw how well that worked out for him.
Will Buck Pierce be looking for Revenge in Grey Cup?

I think that the revenge factor can be spun either way if you want to, Lions have to be looking for revenge of the two losses at the hands of the Bombers. So you can flip the revenge factor to suit your needs, but I like the Lions chances on this one.WRDS wrote:Will this be the main story in the build up to the game?

No. I think he will be looking to lead his team to a victory though - just for the sake of winning rather than setting some score which is not his character and let's fact it - his move to Winnipeg is exactly what he needed. It's been good for him (except last year's injury).WRDS wrote:Will this be the main story in the build up to the game?

It will be a story as even Wally mentioned that post game to the Moj and in point to hype up the game next week.
I doubt Buck will be making any claims that he is out to show up his former team. His focus will be on what his team needs to do to win.

Settling scores is for losers. Same as revenge is for losers.
It is part of the deep, instinctive motivation, however. But if an athlete plays for revenge, or to settle a score, they are not focused on the right stuff. IMO ...
I'm a Buck Pierce fan. One of the all time great character guys on the Lions. I wish him all the good, except against us, and I hope we take it to the Bombers, all the way to victory for us.
Buck is a classy guy. Revenge is not part of his makeup. He is a professional. He is motivated to be his best, to play his best, not for revenge against a team to which he has given credit for giving his career a chance to flourish.

Buck never struck me as a guy motivated primarily by revenge. Professional and by and large classy. Is it a component? Perhaps, but I think the media will make a bigger deal out of it than Buck would ever allow it to be.

I really hope Buck gets a Grey Cup ring one day... but not in 2011. I love the guy, but I love our guys even more!

Um, have you forgotten he already has one? Time to let Lulay have his turn, I say.Belize City Lion wrote:I really hope Buck gets a Grey Cup ring one day... but not in 2011. I love the guy, but I love our guys even more!

Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

You are correct, sir! I did forget that Buck got a ring when he was holding the clip board for DD. Still, I agree, it is Lulay's time!sj-roc wrote:Um, have you forgotten he already has one? I don't think most of our d-line even played with Buck , don't think that will be a factor . I think more of a factor will be the play of Travis . Bombers played BC when BC was still down in the cellar . Much different team now .JohnHenry wrote:Buck should be looking to stay upright and healthy rather than for revenge. I just hope the Lions D doesn't have too much respect for their former teammate, holding up a bit from a devastating hit opportunity...and have him pick us apart with those short passes.
Re: Will Buck Pierce be looking for Revenge in Grey Cup?
Interestingly, it was the Bombers who handed us our last home loss, back on Aug 13. 6-0 at home since that game.pennw wrote:I don't think most of our d-line even played with Buck , don't think that will be a factor . Agreed on the BP non-revenge factor; I don't think he's looking at this GC much differently than if he were facing any of Ssk/Edm/Cgy. His demeanor in that sense reminds me of another former Lion QB in Danny McManus.cromartie wrote:Buck never struck me as a guy motivated primarily by revenge. Professional and by and large classy. Buck did more than hold a clipboard in that season. He was on the field for all 25 Lions points in the 2006 Grey Cup, including the team's only touchdown. Wally made the bold move of having his two quarterbacks share playing time in that game.Belize City Lion wrote:I did forget that Buck got a ring when he was holding the clip board for DD. I don't think Buck has any thoughts of revenge but I'm sure he's excited to be playing against his old team in the building where his CFL career began.

Re: Will Buck Pierce be looking for Revenge in Grey Cup?
I recalled an interview Buck did prior to a game against the Lions in which he said he was not bitter at being released by the Lions. Matter of fact he was very appreciative of the Lions for giving him the opportunity to play pro football.
