Desperation. Trading the future (draft picks) for a guy whose best years are behind him.
Would it be ironic if Arland Bruce develops a case of the dropsies with the Lions?

Re: Trade for Arland Bruce
Wow. Draft picks. How the mighty have fallen. Bruce was seen as damaged goods in Hamilton, between his nagging injuries and his nagging about not being used properly. He's also dropped a lot of balls, going back to Hamilton's last play in the East semifinal last year. I hope he comes to B.C. with a fresh attitude and sticky hands. I wonder if this will scuttle Nick Moore's return to the lineup.

Re: Trade for Arland Bruce
As much as the Lions need help, I don't know if this is the answer (especially for a couple of picks). Hopefully I am wrong...
Re: Trade for Arland Bruce
Wow. I like Arland Bruce a lot but draft picks?!? (in Jim Mora voice)
I believe we'll have:
#1 = 2
#2 = 1
#3 = 2 (if Messam plays 9 games - almost a lock)
Bruce will bring stability and sure hands, but I hate the idea of trading the future for an aging (and injured) vet. I hope this works out.

I am hearing a 3rd rounder plus a conditional selection. If that is the case, it isn't as bad as I thought, unless it is a first round pick as well.David wrote:Wow. I like Arland Bruce a lot but draft picks?!? (in Jim Mora voice)

Wally's comments, from bclions.com:
Link“Arland is an outstanding talent and one of the premier players in our league,” said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono. “In addition to bringing a wealth of experience to our offense, Arland will mentor our younger receivers and also help balance the field for Geroy which will improve our overall offensive production.”
Re: Trade for Arland Bruce
Just want to add that remember when he left the Argos after punching Prefontaine on the sidelines and now he is discontented with the amount of balls thrown his way, not like that is going to accelerate as a Lion.
It does point out the inability to find a solid receiver this past off season though.

Same here, if he is healthy he will help tremendously as he give Lulay a 2nd option after Geroy.Rammer wrote:More concerned about his knee issue.WestCoastJoe wrote:Desperation. Trading the future (draft picks) for a guy whose best years are behind him.

Really hope we did not give up a #1 for him at the rate we are going it could be the #1 overall.

Perry Lefko of Sportsnet says the trade is for a third-round draft pick. The Lions could have an extra third rounder from the Jerome Messam trade with Edmonton.

Re: Trade for Arland Bruce
Is Arland Bruce a guy that Wally will need to start phasing out soon?
Absolutely love this deal. Considering how crappy our drafting has been, giving up a 3rd round pick and a conditional pick for a guy like Bruce is a great deal. I wonder if he could have been had for free (as in if Hamilton was going to release him or not), but regardless, we just acquired another deep threat to go with Geroy. Simon, Bruce, Gore is an excellent 1-2-3 punch. Foster has proven to be reliable when called upon, and we still have Peterson/Jackson who are reliable vets who can chip in.
I'm excited for Friday.

Re: Trade for Arland Bruce
I don't think that Bruce will be in the mix for Friday's game, but a fair point to the potential release of Bruce, the one good thing about the current record, it does give the Lions first opportunity to pick up any released player.The_Pauser wrote:Is Arland Bruce a guy that Wally will need to start phasing out soon?

Re: Trade for Arland Bruce
This is insanity but a smart move by Wally the Shrewd to bring an injured guy who is past his prime, brings baggage just so he can dump him later like Casey Printers. Very shrewd of Wally to do this.
Now next week's press conference - he will be phasing out Arland just like he said he is Kamau and Paris. Only in Wally's world does logic like this not get the media all over the guy.
