Re: Jarious Jackson may test open market
With Toronto's need at Qb, and Lulay being well under 30, J-Jax should see what the market has to offer him as it looks as if Wally B is not to keen on the idea of JJ as the starting Qb long term.

For some reason, I thought that we'd signed him a few months ago...

Well, if JJax sets sail to Toronto maybe the Blue Bombers cut Buck loose and we can resign him to play the #2 qb?

Jarious is one of my all-favourite Lions. A future coach for sure. As good a team guy as you could ever find. A clutch QB. His stats have usually been less than the ideal. He hits long passes and has never had good touch on short ones. He is much better in the clutch than he has been in the regular course of games.
Wally has shown his usual tolerant attitude to a player checking out the market. More than fair.
How much interest there would be in Jarious is hard to say. Not much interest in him as a starter, I would venture. As a backup, the best deal he would get would seem to be in B.C., where Wally really does value him, as a player and as a role model and locker room leader.
I hope he is back with the Lions.

Well said WCJ. Excellent attitude, great team guy... He'll probably look back on his career and feel he was underused, but there was always that one guy ahead of him on the depth chart... A legit starter IMO..
But, he made his money, has his health, and you never know what may come up in the future for him.. Hope he stays around though.
We can't lose another offensive minded coaching prospect either...

From all reports on twitter it looks like Jackson is headed for free agency. His likely destination is Toronto.

Good luck to jarious if he decides to move on. I doubt he was ever going to be a starter here, but he sure filled in well for us when our starters were injured. Hope if he goes, it is to be a starter, but I wonder if the window hasn't already closed?

I'm a big fan of JJ but part of me would like to see him go.
Imo, Wally has often taken his loyalty for granted. I recall JJ starting a game last year when his throwing arm was not yet healed, and afterward Wally demoted him on the depth chart.

Agree. Why wouldn't he go that route. Toronto might come to their senses yet. Or, he will have to re-sign in BC. The risk is if no takers then the Lions can play a bit tougher with him on $$$. Not that they'd do that.Tighthead wrote:I'm a big fan of JJ but part of me would like to see him go.

I only hope he's merely testing his "market value" to get a deal done here, and not seriously thinking of leaving the Den. I believe Jarious is indispensable, what with a young starting quarterback in Lulay and the Buono era marked by having one QB after another go down to injury. We would be screwed without a capable back-up.

If JJ leaves, who's behind Lulay on the depth chart? I have doubts about Chris Leak, if we try to get him.

Re: Jarious Jackson may test open market
The confusing thing for me is that Wally was on the radio 2 weeks ago and left listeners with the impression that a deal with Jarious was pretty much a fait-accompli. What could have changed between then and now?
Promises wouldn't have been made to Jarious at any point in the negotiation that he'd be a starter here, yet they were so close. Surely, given the wacky injury history of our quarterbacks, Jarious must know that he's bound to get some playing time, at worst (unless Wally now sees Reilly as his #2?).
Maybe Wally can throw him the "quarterbacks coach" title, find some extra bucks somewhere, and get this deal done. I must say that if we end up losing him, I'm going to feel a little nervous going into this Grey Cup hosting season with just Travis Lulay (3rd year), Mike Reilly (2nd year), and "who knows who" as a quarterbacking trio.
