Arceneaux has five NFL tryouts set: Agent

I'm skeptical of anything that comes from a player agent at this time of year, especially with the prospect of an NFL lockout looming, but Manny Arceneaux's agent told TEAM1040 that he has five NFL tryouts lined up and hopes to create a "bidding war."

That sounds so cynical and mercenary of the agent. I am not saying Manny should not go for the bucks, but that bidding war stuff just sounds so crass.

I wish Manny well. Potentially a great player for us. All the physical tools one could hope for in a player.

He might stick with a team down there. They might have to be patient. They are so particular in what they want.

Well, I have little doubt Manny A lands down in South, whether he sticks remains to be seen of course.

As for his twitter account...there are reasons why he did so, Manny..was..err..very amorous and did not mind being a bit explicit..

Well, upside is, I think Stevie Black is ready to have a huge year, and Gore has a yr under his belt, so far though Black to me is the keeper.

Oh well, if we lose him, we still have this guy named Arsenault that Blitz always writes about. (j/k)

Personally, I think it's a mistake to go down there as I don't think he's ready, and a lot of players get messed up coming back here after getting cut. With all due respect, receivers like Manny are plentiful down south. Granted, he was on fire toward the end of the season and oozes potential, but is Mr. Ghahremani aware of just how many passes he dropped this year? His confidence seemed to really sag after the critical drop against the Argos (Week Four). He didn't win any BC Lion player awards nor was he a finalist for any league awards. Poor start, great finish = good season. Meh.

I'm sure someone will sign him, but good luck with that bidding war.

If MA doesn't go now, he will be straddled to the Lions for two more seasons at minimum. That is two prime time earning years for a young receiver like Arceneaux, IMO and a very difficult opportunity to turn away from. The NFL money is a lure that the CFL just can't compete with, and you have to know that each CFL player has risen through some very tough competition to make it to that point, so they will not see any reason not to make it to the Next Formidable Level.

Well, to be positive about things, Manny A is an option guy, not a pure FA, so if he washes out we still could see him again in BC.

I can never blame an athlete for taking more money to ply his trade as their careers are so delicate and can be over in the blink of an eye.

If there is an NFL lockout, when would that start? I would guess next season? Could make it hard to go south if the league isn't operating.

I think this agent is not thinking long term. This guy should heed Buono's advice and stay a bit longer in BC. It doesn't hurt to get a workout but there is always a downside if you don't look brilliant. They might not look next time.

Well, the union stuff is arcane but basically the players' union has voted to dissolve itself..if it wishes to do so, which means a lockout would be countered by the dissolution of the union which would mean the teams in theory would have to honor their contracts with players.

But on to your question, I have heard early March named, but I would bet it would happen AFTER the NFL draft on April 20 something.

Re: Arceneaux has five NFL tryouts set: Agent

If Manny makes it to the NFL, good on him, but I won't be missing him much. There's a lot of potential in him and he ended really strong, but there were things I didn't like in him. The main thing was the number of drops he made in the season. Too many for my liking. I rather I have a guy that can catch all the time instead of catching the odd long ball every now and then. His showboating in one game where we got spanked didn't rub me the right way. It looks like we got a few young guys in the system that we can groom, so Manny won't be that big of a loss in my opinion.
