That shows a lot of disrespect doesn't it? Stupid Windsorites... no idea what so ever about Canada... it's just a suburb of Detroit.

The lions are for sale, so maybe Romberg should put his money up or shut up.JohnHenry wrote:According to LU's Blog, Buono called Romberg about his interest in coming to the Lions. Buono: "Brett Romberg said that if the club was for sale he might consider buying it." And with that the office door was closed.
Foley says it's between signing with the coaches and team he knows (Lions)...or playing closer to his family and friends (Argos).
Lumbala has changed his mind again and will return to the Lions on Wednesday.

Agreed, he can play professional football for a game check, or he can watch soap operas.Lionheart wrote:That shows a lot of disrespect doesn't it? Stupid Windsorites... no idea what so ever about Canada... it's just a suburb of Detroit.
Brett Romberg is not exactly a hot commodity.
What really does bother me is he should have made his money by now, so chasing a Grey Cup should certainly be more interesting than not playing at all.
Where is the competitive drive that a pro athlete should have? Apparently not in Romberg.

If Romberg can afford to own the Lions he can probably buy all of Windsor these days.

I love these sort of assumptions - making a snap judgement on someone based on one flippant remark.ed_lunsford wrote:Agreed, he can play professional football for a game check, or he can watch soap operas.Lionheart wrote:That shows a lot of disrespect doesn't it? I would suggest that Romberg exhibited a competitive drive by getting a full ride to Miami, excelling there, toiling on practice rosters to become a starter, and ultimately having a decent career that may not yet be complete.
I'll put my evidence of his competitive drive up against your evidence of his lack thereof.
He may not be a hot commodity, but that doesn't mean he won't get signed somewhere after week one.

Show me one championship ring he ever won on a professional level.

Re: Foley and Mallet Cut by Jets and Eagles.
So you need to win a ring to be have a competive drive?
See you next Tuesday. I guess you consider people like Romberg, who have excelled in a competitive field, to be losers. How many people have aspired to a similar career and come up short? He won the Rimington and a National Championship, and you take shots at him for not winning a Super Bowl. Of course, you ignore the possibility that he may be staying around trying to sign with another team - and win a Super Bowl.
Says more about you than him.
I love the douche-like suggestion that his only choices are watching soaps or playing for the Lions - that is a load of perspective you are bringing to the discussion.

Re: Foley and Mallet Cut by Jets and Eagles.
In 8 years since leaving college Romberg only dressed for 42 games and started 18 and all the starts were with the Rams from 2006-08. That alone should be enough for a guy to start thinking he should take that NFL money and pension and run. Before Romberg had finished he junior season with the 'Canes he already had earned his Bachelor's degree in Business (Marketing) and was enrolled in UM's graduate school of sports administration. It would appear he has more than enough smarts to move on to a great career, possibly in football, with his body relatively intact. Had he played on a steady basis throughout his career it would be much tougher to walk away. I suspect much of that competitive drive you speak of has eroded considerably as he bounced around from team to team and PR to PR playing the role of career backup and practice roster fodder.ed_lunsford wrote:Agreed, he can play professional football for a game check, or he can watch soap operas.

He was offered a job and slammed the offer, that speaks louder than anything I could possibly type.Tighthead wrote:So you need to win a ring to be have a competive drive?

That is the thing, Romberg even with bouncing around has made a pile of money, he is not a unintellgent man, perhaps projecting but wouldn't the best way to finish a career would be to win a Championship?
That is what I'm not grasping, granted football IS a profession for him, which means playing centers around Cash, but still, if he has not made his pile by now, chances are good, he never will in the football business.
Why not take a shot at finishing things off with a gaudy, diamond encrusted, platinum Championship ring?
And THAT is what I mean by competitive fire.

Re: Foley and Mallet Cut by Jets and Eagles.
You have no clue as to the context. Do you have a quote from him? No, it was from Buono, a secondary source, devoid of tone and nuance. Was it a slam, or a jest?ed_lunsford wrote:He was offered a job and slammed the offer, that speaks louder than anything I could possibly type.Tighthead wrote:So you need to win a ring to be have a competive drive?

You are making assumptions. Pretty class to give him zero benefit of the doubt - I guess it makes you feel big, and soothes your own latent insecurities.
You judging someone speaks louder than anything here. You have no clue as to what sort of discussions his agent is having with NFL teams, his non-football aspirations, his health, or his family situation. He has proven to be quite adept at managing his football career, so I am going to trust his judgment on this one.

Re: Foley and Mallet Cut by Jets and Eagles.
So you still don't know the context, and are passing judgement based upon a glib comment from Buono that may not even be serious - or in anyway accurate. That is impressive.
And you are calling Romberg a loser, taking great offence, and posting about it?
It must be fun to go through life looking to get pissed at everything.
See you next Tuesday, Ed Lunsford.
