Nice Seeing Dave Ritchie on the sidelines today

Interesting appearance by the ex-Lion HC, looked to be involved to a degree today, not just a visit. Could be offering a little extra insight to help out the D.

Sure wish we could coax him back for a couple of months of tuning.

Welcome back, Coach.

Interesting timing in your return. Kind of like Wally is rallying the troops and bringing in some long-time allies. Wally has lost his senior advisers and confidants: Bob Ackles, Bob O'Billovich and yourself. Wally could use your counsel and wisdom. You've been there, and done it all.

It would be nice if you could stay for a while.

A little consulting perhaps ? Braley did say they were going to get things turned around . Could some late developments we are seeing be some of that attempt to right the ship?

Coach Ritchie, when you have a spare moment can you refresh our play book as well ? It has become stale over the years.

Re: Nice Seeing Dave Ritchie on the sidelines today

Ritchie's advice to Wally, according to Lowell Ullrich, is to ignore the critics and stay the course.
Ritchie's only piece of advice to his former boss was already consistent with Buono's approach during what has been his worst stretch with the Lions. Listen to the naysayers, and you are beaten.

"I got a thing about critics; which monument in the world has been built for a critic?" said Ritchie. "Wally's won a million games. It'll all snap in [with the Lions]."

He has a point, yet had Wally listened to his critics here last season, Javy would have been moved outside and Jamall Johnson would be in the middle. Seems like it only took Wally longer to come to that conclusion, at the expense of losing JJ.

Currently, there is a concern of Barron Miles at Safety, Butler at DE, and our leftside of the OL, although Heerspink may be half the problem solved and Hameister-Reis the other half (but not until next year). Then of course we do need that deep threat receiver, but that has been a problem from day 1 of Wally's tenure (other than the brief showing of Simmons).

Jamall Johnson's not playing in the middle in Hamilton either. He's playing on the outside where Otis Floyd played in B.C.

Seems to me in the past Buono hasn't been shy about bringing in a trusted extra set of eyes for that sort of thing. I could be wrong, but did he not have Hufnagel doing a little consulting gig a few years back?

Re: Nice Seeing Dave Ritchie on the sidelines today

Dave's trips to Hamilton and B.C. have been scheduled for more than a month. He has been working at a number of football camps Rhode Island, Mass. and NY this summer. He would still have come to B.C. this week if the Lions were 5-0. Would he like to help right the ship, you bet. We have watched a number of the games together this season on tv and on line. If he was unable to view the game I got the call to find out what happened in the morning. He loves the game and believes he still has alot to offer.

Re: Nice Seeing Dave Ritchie on the sidelines today

They had a good article in the Province and he said he doesnt want to be an assistant coach. It also said he is just on holidays and staying with the Buonos.
