It's amazing how this myth got started. The Lions O line became the best in the league, the riders thought their duty to knock 'em off and when they couldn't do it... they cryed dirty. Man I'm getting sick of these fans and this *poop*. How many eyeballs get close to being gouged out in a game or season and their *beeotch* and whining about a good pin??
I think part of the issue with regard to that area is that it is a point of contention in the rule book that such pinning is illegal this year.

CFL.ca -> more -> 2008 rule book -> points of emphasis: "holding"
After an opponent has been pushed down or fallen upon by a blocker, he must not be prevented from rising from the ground.
What some people are more angry about is that this incident was a textbook example of such pinning, which Murphy is somewhat known for, and two officials were looking right at the play - and no flags were thrown until Romero came in.

I hope that Murphy (or anyone else - Kabongo got flagged for it earlier this year, come to think of it) gets called on this if it happens again, because it's a penalty.
If he is holding the player down I agree, however laying him out while just remaining on top of him isn't going to get called ever. Just watch the replay of the Murphy pin, two refs both viewing it and he didn't get called for it. Now if you ask me if I think it should be a penalty, yes I do, but as it stands now, pancaking and pinning an opponent isn't called unless you are physically holding/grabbing him down.
That's a point...though one could easily make the case that remaining on top of him is preventing him from getting up, like the rule says (and thus why some of us think it should've been flagged).

But yeah, true enough...guess the league has some more work to do to make that rule more black-and-white.

I read that Romero's fine was much higher....

The CFL has fined Eskimos' defensive lineman Dairo Romero $2,500 for his part in Friday night's altercation at B.C. Place in Vancouver.

Romero and Lions offensive lineman Rob Murphy, who was also fined, received unnecessary roughness penalties on the play that started when Murphy tackled Edmonton safety Jason Goss and allegedly choked him.

Curiously, Esks' defender Siddeeq Shabazz, who was ejected from the game, escaped reprimand.

Con is a decent scribe, but he's not plugged in like the Esk's beat writer Huntington....

"It is kind of crazy to see Dario (Romero) get fined. But what can you do?" cracked Shabazz on Romero's $300 fine for his role in the Rob Murphy dust-up last Friday.

Re: Murphy & Romero fined by the CFL

Good clips of Murphy on Sportsnet Connected. One where the announcer calls him the DIRTIEST player in the CFL and then Murphy grabs and slams the guy to the turf

These clips were funny, IMO. Had anybody been badly hurt during last weeks fracas, I don't think I'd be laughing. I remember a BC Lion getting thrown out for being thirdman in during some kind of broohaha against the Riders last year. I guess they do it to stop things getting out of hand but it seems to me, often the guy getting tossed wasn't necessarily the guy who DESERVED to get tossed. Of course, in the heat of the moment these things are obviously harder to judge.

The CFL should fine for Macciocia just for being a sissy!!!

Goss should win either or both of the CFL's newest awards by the Sissy Boy Panty Corporation:

1. Goss is a lock for "Best portrayal of a seriously injured football player by a spontaneous faker".

2. he might also go unchallenged for "Fastest recovery from a devastatingly severe injury".

Never have I seen a guy go from a near death experience just before half time to return just after the half than this guy. I bet they are howling with laughter in the Esks locker room causing Murphy to get fined. In some ways, it makes a mockery of the tragic injury to former Esk James Bell who actually was devastatingly injured in a game at BC Place some years ago. That was horrific and scary for all players. This was just a show.

"Body's still sore and everything, but I'm fine," Goss said Friday. "He gave me a shot in the back of the head and knocked me out for a little bit. I took this week slow. They took precautions, when I told them my neck was hurting and pains were going down my back. I'd heard he said I poked him in the eye. It's kind of hard to poke somebody when you're on your back and he's sitting on top of you."

What a joke...lol.
