After an opponent has been pushed down or fallen upon by a blocker, he must not be prevented from rising from the ground.
What some people are more angry about is that this incident was a textbook example of such pinning, which Murphy is somewhat known for, and two officials were looking right at the play - and no flags were thrown until Romero came in.
I hope that Murphy (or anyone else - Kabongo got flagged for it earlier this year, come to think of it) gets called on this if it happens again, because it's a penalty.
And I hope that anyone "taking a breather" on the field to allow their D to rest gets flagged for delay of game (that game went way over the bounds of decent time) and allows the game to finish at a decent hour, but I digress.
Seems to me your complaint is with Higgins, not Murph. Then again, he let Barranachea lay out Kevin Glenn with a helmet to helmet hit, and did nothing, just as the League is famous for ignoring say...the helmet to helmet hits on Clermont, Pierce, and DD a while back.
As I've said 20 times, it depends on whose ox is being gored. You guys had no problem with Trey Young deliberately attempting to injure Pierce last year, and that's because it wasn't your ox.
Now it is. And all the righteous indignation and gnashing of teeth won't change the fact the officials won't enforce the rules at times.
I didn't particularly like the, er, injuries, either, to be honest. Underhanded, yes - but potentially physically harmful, no.
True, my beef is partially with Higgins and the refs. But I don't like Murphy splayed on top of a 5'10'' 183-pound DB who he outweighs by three digits, especially when Goss is trying to get up. Braidwood, that's different, the size difference is minimal and AB can take care of himself much better. Goss is not a lineman for a reason - he's not as big as they are.
Hey, you want to talk about helmet-to-helmet hits...we lost our best receiver of the century FOREVER because of one of those. I thought Augie should've been suspended, was a bit surprised when he wasn't, just like this situation.
Who's "you guys"? Trey Young wasn't on my team last year, and I have no idea which incident you're talking about.

Don't imply I don't care because I wasn't aware of the situation...for example, a couple people over at Esksfans have been quite vocal about helmet-to-helmets, using Clermont and co. as prime examples, and I agree with them.
Nobody wants to see anybody hurt...especially outside the rules of the game.
