Ron Lancaster passed away this morning.

There is a thread on RiderFans saying that Ron Lancaster died this morning. If true its unbelievable as so many in the CFL family passing this year (Ackles, Pettersen, Lunsford, Lancaster) combined with careers ending mid season (Tucker, Dickenson).

Godspeed Litttle General....you'll be missed.
I'd love you to say it to my face because you'd only say it once...if you ever had the courage to say it at all!! Blitz, 05/24/2008

Another CFL icon lost.
Perhaps nobody contributed more to this league on the field, as a coach and in the broadcast booth.

RIP #23. A true legend.

Re: Rumour: Ron Lancaster passed away this morning.

Sad news indeed. It was a poignant moment at BC Place a few years ago when he was coaching on the opposite sideline as Damon Allen succeeded him as the league's top passer.

I think we'll be seeing a very touching tribute during Saturday's pregame at Taylor Field.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Stunning news. It's hard to believe that we've lost so many this year. Should be very moving this Saturday-I'm glad I'll be able to be part of it.

The Little General, RIP.

You had a great run, now share some stories with Bobby Ackles.

Tough year for the CFL icons.

Re: Ron Lancaster passed away this morning.

Very sad news  . Ron Lancaster was a CFL icon in every sense of the word. As a player, coach, broadcaster or in a management roll, the Little General has been a huge part of the CFL over the past 48 years.

He will be missed.

Re: Ron Lancaster passed away this morning.

Wow very very stunning and sad news. Even though we knew he was battling cancer again, I guess we all felt that he might win his battle again, like he did the first time.

RIP Ron, you lived a great life and will always be synonymous with the CFL. You will be missed.

Re: Ron Lancaster passed away this morning.

I had the priviledge of seeing Ronnie play live when I was a kid - he was a gentleman, a legend, a leader and a hero. One of our local radio guys said he's now been re-united with the late Don Wittman in the great broadcast booth in the sky...
