firstdown45 wrote:I know, that's my point. I'm flabberghasted. How can the Lions play in a 10,000 seat stadium?

Tell 20,000 season ticket holders that they don't have enough seats to accomodate them all?

Set up a lottery system so only the first 10,000 fans get tickets and 20,000 others are left out in the lurch?

Total crapp. So much for the Retractable Roof garbage!
Lol, i can guarantee that that wont happen......too much time building the fan base to slap it in the face. i think hambone is right, they will use the schedule to accomodate the roof.

Yes of course, I should've thought of that.

Play football with all 22 cables hanging down.

Maybe during a field goal the kicker can angle the ball is such way as to avoid one of the cables hanging down.

Re: BC Place to be CLOSED for 6 months during Roof construction

Cables and such are the least of our worries.

I have heard from a reliable source, that the stadium construction is going to create considerable disruption in the downtown core. Traffic, the environment, and daily lives will be affected. People are not going to be happy. The citizens of Vancouver, and downtown residents and business people are not going to take this quietly. Large, loud and potentially violent protests and civil disobedience is expected. Gordon Campbell and Stephen Harper know this - and are prepared to do what ever it takes to build the new roof.

In light of this anticipated unrest, the Harper government is ready to enact the "Emergencies Act", which of course replaced the War Measures Act (re: FLQ crisis), during construction. This is essentially Marshall Law, where Canadian soldiers will take over policing the downtown, curfews are implemented, people are jailed and held without cause, and basic civil rights suspended.

This action is unprecedented. The roof must be built.

The Lion should mabey build a temporary stadium, say, 35,000 seats, located at the convergence of Hwys 10 and 17 in S. Delta. This would be a handy location and is serviced by Hwys 99 & 91 as well. Just build Vancouver's biggest parking lot, lay down some sod and erect the temporary grandstands on each side....Bingo! To keep the greenies happy, White Rock/Crescent Beach would be the logical next expansion phase of the RAV Skytrain line from Richmond, which could make a convenient stop off at the new stadium along the way.

I've always thought both the lions and the canucks should play outside of the main part of the city, the traffic is outrageous and it makes it really hard for out of town fans, and fans that work a regular shift to get out to games.

Perhaps you would consider a location at Hastings and Highway #1 then? The negative of playing downtown are easy to list, but just think about all the hotels, restaurants and skytrain availability. If you are going to invite world class events, there isn't a better location despite the drawbacks of taking your vehicle to the games.

Yea, its just rough getting there. Ive left abby 5 hours before the game is supposed to start and have still ended up late. There just so many things going on in van plus all the ppl trying to get back from work. It doesnt have to be far out of the way, but right in the downtown quadrant is just too busy......searched for 2 hours for parking for the last west final....thats just retarded....oops, mentally challenged...

On the positive side, I don't think you will have to worry about finding parking in Vancouver for the WDF.

On the negative side, I don't think you will have to worry about finding parking in Vancouver for the WDF.

haha, took me a moment to find ur post there...yea...that seems to be a moot point now. hopefully when the highway is expanded to 4 lanes it will be easier to get there....now, with two lanes that end in a dead stop at 200th st. it takes an hour to get from 200th to the bridge.....

Francesco Aquilini will be cutting down several hundred trees in Central Park and expanding Swangard to 25,000 for his Whitecaps MLS team so the Lions can play there for one season.

Thank you Aquilini.

I had no ideas that FA owned central park, or Swangard. Learn something new everyday.

Re: BC Place to be CLOSED for 6 months during Roof construction

Taking Hwy 1 is just dumb. From Abbotsford, take Mt Lehman to Fraser Hwy, turn left on Bradner to 16th Ave (King Rd) and follow to S. Surrey, and then jump on the 99. You can be at the stadium in just under two hours. I live in White Rock, but take that route every time I need to go into the Valley. It's quick and easy compared to any other routes. From S. Surrey, the drive is 40 minutes to the stadium (assuming you leave S. Surrey after 6 PM).

It's almost as if we're not being told the whole story. Like people behind the scenes are being evasive.
And exactly how did you come by this information?

Oh yeah... open house. Damn those evasive bastards!
