Not sure they can afford to keep both Crandell and Bishop's salaries, given their SMS situation. Since Sept 1st is not far away, one would think that Marcus could get an apple and a road map.

ya think its possible that sask is only "borrowing" bishop and that he himself could end up being the future considerations??

IIRC, the League put into place provisions to prevent that following the Esks renting Jason Maas after they had traded him to Hamilton for Troy Davis in 2005.

Pure salary dump on the part of the Argos. IMO. It's before Sept. 1st, so....

In a sense they are pretty well borrowing Bishop, as it ultimately comes down to absorbing Bishops salary, as the return to TO is a 2011 conditional contract pending Bishops results until then.

Re: Michael Bishop traded to Saskatchewan

With Bishop's sizeable Cap hit off the books, this opens the door for the Argos to acquire Joe Smith, who is probably making about the same money.

This is a win/win for all parties involved. Sask, racked with QB injuries, gets a dynamic QB who went 10-1 as a starter last year, and they lose nobody off their roster. Toronto gets rid of a malcontent before his contract is guaranteed in Sept, plus they free up cap space to get their new Robert Drummond, if they can swing a trade with BC for Joe...

What player would the Lions covet off the Argos roster? Kevin Eiben, Willie Pile or Byron Parker?

Re: Michael Bishop traded to Saskatchewan

As far as I'm concerned, Crandell is the worst starting QB in the league by far so anything is an upgrade, even if it's Bishop. I still don't think Bishop is anywhere near good enough to be a consistant starter but I would take him in a heartbeat over Crandell.

What I'm curious about is how ET will be able to find room in the cap room what with his constant complaining about how injuries are killing his cap. Guess we'll see how that plays out.

The funny thing is that I think if ET had waited a little longer, he could have had Casey Printers as I don't think he'll last much longer. Either way, maybe this paves the way for Joe Smith to get traded to the Argos and possibly the Lions picking up Printers???

Re: Michael Bishop traded to Saskatchewan

I doubt the Lions would be interested in getting Printers this season. It would be a stab in the back to Jarius and Buck to bring Casey in now. Wally will have to live with the QBs he chose for this season, but all bets are off for next year. The Argos Cetout is a Canadian receiver who is a player the Lions could use if they trade Joe Smith.

The Riders getting Bishop for the upcoming series against the Lions, certainly changes the dynamics, rather than of playing against Crandell or Jyles.

No Casey Stinkers, thanks. Another Joe 747 Adams flash in the pan. He's so over.

Re: Michael Bishop traded to Saskatchewan

Methinks that Durant will be the starter and Bishop the backup. Durant's been here for 4 years and look how he managed the offence when Crandell went down early in the season. With Crandel struggeling and Jyles nicked up (and not ready to start IMHO), Bishop is insurance.

Darian Durant is the future in Riderville and the future is now. Crandell is now expendable, I guess.

Not sure if that is the final shakedown resulting from the trade, but one thing is for sure, someone that has the QB beside his name on the Rider roster isn't sleeping very well after today. I don't see the reasoning behind Bishop, although the cost was next to zero, but that in itself may be saying a ton. It does two things, forces a roster deletion and turns the QB stable upside down. To me it suggests that Jyles is nicked more than first thought, secondly that DD won't be back as soon as expected, as Bishop is going to take a few weeks just to learn a couple plays, as his 6 seasons in TO have demonstrated that he can't grasp that O as of yet. So he won't be serving much but INT's until he gets a feel for teh receivers in Saskatchewan, and even then that group will be a revolving door with the injured making returns as the season winds down.....strange trade indeed, it may become the coupe of the season, or bust up what harmony exists in the QB ranks of the Riders, time will only tell.
