IIRC, what the Riders did was select an OLineman (Andrew Greene, I think) in the supplemental draft the year before and forfeited their 1st RD pick which was ahead of BC's 1st RD pick........the Riders were aware that LION82 would only be available early in the draft, but chose to go after the Olineman anyway.WestCoastJoe wrote:http://www.cfl.ca/index.php?module=page ... &year=2002
Looking at the list now, not a lot of those guys left in the CFL.
Jason Clermont, of course.
BC even picked up Sherko Haji-Rasouli from Montreal. Last time I checked, Brett Romberg was still doing pretty well in the NFL. Those 2 Canadians were excellent O Linemen for a very strong Miami U Hurricanes team.
I guess the Riders management would have been drawn and quartered by the local populace if they had the chance, and passed on drafting Jason Clermont.
Somehow, the rumour/legend is out there that the Riders did just that, passed up that chance. Had they traded away a higher drafting position earlier?

I can't remember how that all went either. I can't find the info on 2001 Supplemental Picks to see who the Riders might have taken, but it wasn't Greene. The Riders drafted him way back in 1994. Regardless the Riders can't be chastised for that other than from the 20/20 Hindsight Department. It was a decision they made a full year before the 2002 Draft. Ottawa received a bonus pick to start things off, likely as an expansion thing. They took Alexandre Gauthier. Then with their regular pick they took SFU's Mike Vilmek. The Argos followed that up by drafting OL Cory Annett before BC took Clermont.Shi Zi Mi wrote:IIRC, what the Riders did was select an OLineman (Andrew Greene, I think) in the supplemental draft the year before and forfeited their 1st RD pick which was ahead of BC's 1st RD pick........the Riders were aware that LION82 would only be available early in the draft, but chose to go after the Olineman anyway.
You're as old as you've ever been and as young as you're ever going to be.
