Fan support wasn't where it is today, during the final couple years of the Roy Shivers era. How many blackouts were lifted due to sellouts in '06? I think just one, which would've been Labour Day. Maybe two, I could be wrong.

The only teams I can think of that still draw sellouts, or close to it, even when they're in the basement is Calgary and Edmonton, although its not surprising when you have the history of success that Edmonton and Calgary have. Less sure about Edmonton, but I remember even during the one year F-Troupe Era, Stamp fans still filled McMahon on a regular basis.
Rider dont lift the blackout until it is a virtual sellout.
with that said, obvious crowd numbers are going to be higher. We still have bandwagoners here, same as everywhere else. The bandwagoners are the difference in avg. 29000 fans a game and 27500.

I'm grateful for all CFL fans. Hardcore fans....what about those Baltimore fans that make the trek to every Grey Cup? They don't even have a team anymore. Their city has an NFL franchise. But they choose to come watch our Grand National Drunk. I'm jealous of Rider fans in reality. WHY?

They don't have to watch every sport short of lawn darts getting covered over football. Sask is kinda like Canada's Texas-footballs the game and if you're not watching- guess you're helping with the cooking.

Looks like the whole country wants the BC Lions to stomp out the Riders. The Lions have the whole country excluding Saskatchewan putting pressure on them.

Well Dan, I wouldn't say the whole country, as so many Saskatchewanites (is that even right?) live outside that province, and are spread throughout. But you have to hand it to them as far as their undying, ardent support for their team, even after been transplanted from their home province.
I would venture to say, that there is also additional support from other team fans that are routing for them.

Just don't forget to go to the liquor store and stock up on cheap rye before the "farm yuppies" all arrive in BC and buy it all up.

Good post.

The Baltimore fans get major respect from me.

I like the Texas/Sask comparison. Football is big here at every level. It's a small province but the CIS and Junior teams in this province are consistently among the best in the country (moreso Saskatoon). There are small towns all over the province that have 6 or 9 man high school football, minor football is also huge. 1000's of kids are playing football before they ever even hit high school. It's a football province.

I would say Hockey too..judging by the amount of NHL'ers that list their home towns , Sask. Grass roots all around, no?

Well considering he is a Green fan, and he used the term "you" instead of "we", I thought he was referencing the BC Lions as being Canada's Team. 8)

Well I'll say that I hope the Lions beat the Riders on Sunday as well, but not to do Canada any favours. If, by some foul twist of fate, the Riders win on the 18th, I'll be rooting for them in the Grey Cup.
Enough is enough.

See, that's where the analogy breaks down: a Texan would NEVER admit to anything from or about Texas being small!

Reminds me of a bit from Mad Magazine many years ago... ways you could tell what states people were from. For example, Texans:
- Refuse to recognize the existence of Alaska
- Have unlisted area codes
- Think owning more than two 747s is pretentious

I am kind of partial to the moniker of "BC" part of the Lions name, as much as I love Canada, I am sticking with being a BC Lion fan.
