I'm....stunned.

That said, you couldn't do much better than bringing in Jamie to replace him.

Wow. I'll miss him, but he's put more than enough time and heart into the club. Good luck Lui. I hope his new venture is successful.

I'd agree with this statement.

They own land in Poco and are going to develop it. Lui may have seen where the promotion line was not going to open up for him, the extra experience may afford him a look on his terms later in life.

Wow I never saw this coming, I wonder what this family business is? Oh well Taras is a legend as well so not much drop-off there.

At least he will remain with the Lions organization until the end of this season to facilitate the transition of responsibilities to Jamie Taras. Coming off his fourth Grey Cup ring, it would be great if he could end off his office staff career with the Lions with yet another ring the same way he finished his playing career with a championship.

Lui enters his sixth year as Director of Community Relations for the team. Under Lui’s direction, the Punt, Pass and Kick, Read Write and Roar!, and Lions in the House community programs have all been established. In 2006, the club was involved in over 185 events with over 470 player/staff appearances.

A former outstanding player, Lui retired after the Lions won the Grey Cup in 2000. He spent 25 years with the team, and played in 408 games. A football legend, Lui was named a CFL All-Star five times, West Division All-Star ten times and to the 2004 Canadian Football Hall of Fame. Over his record-setting career, Lui amassed 3,991 points. He was also the key player in the Lions’ memorable 1994 Grey Cup win over Baltimore, kicking a field goal with no time remaining to secure the victory.

A graduate from SFU, with a BA in Geography and teaching certificate from UBC, Passaglia spent eight years with ICBC working in public relations prior to taking his current job with the Lions.

While with SFU, Lui was named a NAIA District One All-Star twice and played quarterback and receiver to complement his kicking duties. In 1976, the BC Lions made Lui the 5th overall pick and in his first year wore number 18, before quickly switching to his trademark number five the next season. Lui kept that number for the next 24 years, until it was retired immediately after his final game.

Lui attended Notre Dame High School in East Vancouver, and was born on June 7, 1954, two months before the BC Lions played their first game. Lui and his wife Loa have four children, Lea, Lauren and twin sons Colby and Christopher, and reside in Coquitlam.

Farewell, Lui

One of the all-time clutch players in any sport.

I followed your career from the time you were getting publicity QBing Notre Dame high school in Burnaby, in an offense that seemed unstoppable. Then on to SFU. I watched you try out for kicker with the Lions when Cal Murphy was coach.

With the Lions you were money in the bank.

All the best to you in your endeavours.

All the best to Lui in this new venture that he's taking on. He'll succeed at this as well because of the man he is and the work ethic he has. It'll be a sad day when Lui leaves the Lions but hopefully he'll return one day down the road the same way that Bobby Ackles did. Good luck Lui and thanks for everything! :rockin:

I suspect that you are right - future prospects for upward mobility looked crummy and his land in Coquitlam (not Poco but close) must be ready for development.

This is one instance on this board when I was hoping the oft-mistaken resign really was supposed to be "re-sign." Alas, no such luck. :bawl:

Best of luck to #5. He will be missed. In fact, I can't imagine a season of Lions football without him somewhere in the organization.

I'd like to know who are the up and comers within the Lions organization. Scott Ackles, and now Lui are gone. And those two guys are pretty much the only people I would say have "Senior Management" written all over them.
Charlene

Wow...

The Lions without Lui? Does. Not. Compute.
