That is a huge blow (little play on words there) for Vancouver period. The Dome is just getting ready for its busy season. With the exception of a couple of days it is booked every day from the 3rd week in January until April 15. Not only could it be a huge economic blow to BC Place Corp itself if it can't be fixed it also could cost the hospitality industry millions over the next few months if those events can't still be held in the Dome or relocated.

Hopefully there was no one below but you never know of course.

Not to take this lightly but those who want games outdoors just got their wish.

Yippee!

So the roof IS retractible. Opens in heavy wet slush.

Any insurance for this, or will Gov't of BC have to open it's vault?
Charlene

Why not wait to post about this til you have more information?

To open a thread like this only to read "more to come" is completely frustrating.

But i'm sure glad you got to be the first one to rush in here and post it. Congrats!

Looks like this article from Dec 22 spoke too soon:
Contrary to some previous reports, the Teflon roof does not need to be replaced, as a review conducted by its builder shows it is structurally sound, (Graham Ramsay, business development director of BC Place) says.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Jeepers! I'm sure that a little crazy glue and an air pump will be able to piece things together, still - it must be a surreal sight.

For a comparison, go here, which has some pre-collapse photos from earlier today.
