This should probably go in the All Sports subforum, but I know that many on this subforum have been following the NFL career of Chase Claypool, and so might be interested in the following. He’s a local guy from Abbotsford who played college ball at Notre Dame and was a 2nd-round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2020 NFL draft. His great size and speed, along with his success at Notre Dame, seemed to point to a promising NFL career. He played two seasons with the Steelers, but was traded to the Chicago Bears in the middle of the 2022 season. His performance with the Bears in 2022 was mediocre at best, and in his first game with them in 2023 was pretty dismal. Here are a couple of short pieces from Pro Football Talk on his play last Sunday:

The first time I saw him interviewed I liked his character and naturally how he played. I thought when the two Philpot twins were being interviewed their first year in the CFL, that Chase Claypool sounded like these fine young players.
But... then...the negative stories.
You sure don't like to see a good young player hurt his career.

Claypool has no character and will continue to be a cancer to any team he plays for. Kudos to the Steelers for recognizing this and getting rid of him.
He is now showing his true colors playing with a quarterback who reads a defence as well as a 2 year old reads a book. He is not getting the ball so he has quit on his team already during the first game.
The Bears are a poorly run organization and will probably stay with him to long but eventually see the light and part ways with him. One more team will take a chance on him and then he will be done.
What a waste of talent!

This just in. Perhaps the end of Claypool's time in Chicago?

It sounds like Claypool has never learned to be a pro. He may eventually mature but it may be not soon enough to salvage his career in the NFL, and likely too much ego to consider the CFL once the NFL moves on.

Traded today to the Dolphins for a 6th round pick. If he can't thrive in that offense, there's little hope for him. He had been told by the Bears to stay home the last two weeks.

Dolphins give up a 6th round pick but get Claypool and a 7th round pick from the Bears, so the Dolphins get Claypool without giving up much.South Pender wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 8:59 amTraded today to the Dolphins for a 6th round pick. Claypool will likely be a backup with the Dolphins so he won't see the ball much. I wonder how this will affect the ego of such an immature player.

basically move down 1-5 spots near the end of the draft, aka traded for absolutely nothingDanoT wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 2:35 pmDolphins give up a 6th round pick but get Claypool and a 7th round pick from the Bears, so the Dolphins get Claypool without giving up much.South Pender wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 8:59 amTraded today to the Dolphins for a 6th round pick. Claypool's attitude and behaviors with two franchises who could not wait to have him gone meant he does not deserve a third chance. He is very lucky to get this opportunity and with a very good team and a smart coach. Miami has some real speedsters but Claypool's size could be an advantage, especially in the red zone.
It will be interesting to see how this turns out for Claypool. He has ability.

Any idea why Claypool is a locker room cancer? What is he saying/doing? Doesn't like the way he has been deployed? Or is this an off-field thing?
I mean, keeping a guy away from the team (an unsuccessful one at that) while they sought a trade partner is a pretty serious thing.

For a young Canadian from BC this is shocking.
Jevon Holland is the Miami Safety - Robert Holland's son from Coquitlam so he's not a lone Canadian there but Jevon's not about to let his career be affected.
Over the season comments and issues like his role, their type of offence etc all led to his demise.
I saw the Bears HC say that all coaches, players and staff must abide by the same code of respect, being on time etc.
Despite Claypool's better showing in Tampa, sources told NBC Sports Chicago that Claypool continued to be frustrated with his role in the offense, the Bears had trouble getting complete buy-in from him, and the receiver's attitude was a problem in meetings and practice.
https://www.nbcsportschicago.com/nfl/ch ... 20practice.His lackluster effort, especially when it came to blocking, was addressed by coach Matt Eberflus after a Week 2 loss. And Claypool's frustration was evident Friday when he said he didn't think he was being put in the best position to showcase his skill set. "We'll see where it goes from there," Eberflus said Monday.

Claypool is another in a long line of players whose career was cut short because of attitude.

There are so many very good players coming out of the NCAA each year that unless a player is a top draft pick or exceptional talent, the number of second or third chances evaporates pretty quickly.TheLionKing wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 5:14 pmClaypool is another in a long line of players whose career was cut short because of attitude.
That said, the Lions should perhaps drop their wasted Colin Kaepernick neg list player and add Claypool. Who knows, he could mature one day and start acting like a pro....or not.
The Lions added Claypool to their neg list shortly after the 2020 NFL draft but I don’t know if they still hold his CFL rights.DanoT wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 7:58 pmThere are so many very good players coming out of the NCAA each year that unless a player is a top draft pick or exceptional talent, the number of second or third chances evaporates pretty quickly.TheLionKing wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 5:14 pmClaypool is another in a long line of players whose career was cut short because of attitude.

Here's a piece in the Miami Herald on Claypool, including some of his thoughts on joining the Dolphins. He's stepping into an offense with perhaps the most explosive receiving corps in the NFL with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle taking the top off defenses. If he can get his head straight and his act together, he may become a respectable 3rd or 4th receiver with the Dolphins.
