Can't see why Ottawa would release Masoli to sign Shiltz to be honest.

They had already extended Crum as well.

I think this is a solid signing. Masoli may not be a number 1 any more but QB's all tend to get injured during the course of a season and having an experienced QB standing in the background waiting to step up is never a bad thing.

A very solid signing indeed. He's had some hard luck re injuries in his career, but I've never heard a negative word about him as a person. He seems like a real decent fellow. I'm happy to have him and his years of experience in the room with Nathan and company. Perhaps he'll morph into coaching with the Lions over the next year or two. I think of all the Lions' signings this one made me happiest, he's just a good guy.

I can see why. He's been there a long time and injury plagued plus their line up of backups.
Who knows maybe he wante out or west.
I like the signing if he can stay healthy and BC needs 3 QBs ideally all of whom can play if needed.
Brice needs a role other than standing and watching which was a disgrace in BC last year.

Danny Maciocia in a recent 3DN article;
“I received advice from (longtime CFL head coach and general manager) Wally Buono many years ago — he told me you need a second quarterback to win you two games in a season. We definitely have that with Bethel-Thompson.”
I would say Lions have that as well in Masoli but do think first chance should go to Chase Brice.
