As impressive as VA and the offence have been today, Calgary has put up 30 points.

They will have to be much better against Wpg
and I mean the defence

And Meier 300 yards passing. As Hambone said yesterday our best chance was “A good offence is a good defence” and VA’s blistering first half took the pressure of our defence

Since when is a timecount violation a 10 yard penalty? Or is this just another example of how bad Andre Prioux is?

That was an impressive offensive performance. Adams threw for 413 yards and accounted for 5 total TDs. It could have been more if not for some uncharacteristic drops and misses of open receivers, including one to Hollins in the end zone. The Lions had game-planned well for the Stamps. Adams was hardly pressured, threw screens to Mizzell and chrckdowns to Cottoy, rolled out often and scrambled for 54 yards and 3 TDs.

On defence, Josh Woods stepped in for the injured Ben Hladik and had a monster game with 11 tackles, including several tackles for losses.

Inside the three minute warning, it's a loss of down on First or Second and ten yards on Third.

Incredible how inept looked defensively on Calgary's first possession - and then they essentially held the Stamps to FGs until the game was out of reach. A big stat was allowing only around 77 yards rushing after surrendering 210 two weeks ago.
VA might have had his best game - or at least his best half - and then looked workmanlike in the second half. And was it me, or has he never looked better running the ball since he joined the Lions.
On the nagging side, there were still some untimely penalties that they can't take playing the Bombers. Roughing the kicker prolongs a drive and leads to a Calgary score and holding calls negated some good plays (though some were iffy). That said the team generally looked a lot more disciplined than it had in the second half of the season. Let's give kudos and enjoy this one - cuz it's a very very different setting next week.

One other stat of note is that the Lions outrushed the Stamps 82 yards to 77. VA accounted for the majority of B.C.’s rushing yards but Calgary never got into any rhythm on the ground. Carey had several good runs for first downs but the Lions also had 5 tackles for losses and repeatedly forced the Stamps into second-down passing situations. The Lions converted on 16 of 23 second-down opportunities. The Stamps were just 9 of 19. This was a passing game, and the better passing team won.

I have to give kudos to the coaches. i thought we would come out with same old, but they adapted based on the last game and were ready. Adams on fire didnt hurt. On D we even covered the back out of the backfield, which the Bombers killled us with.

good one!!!

The Lions are now 5-0 when hosting the WSF.

Unfortunately in those seasons they are also 0-4 in the ensuing WDF. May this season end the trend. :cr:

Nice to see Adams not holding on to the ball like he often does. Quick reads and accurate passes for the most part were very Rourke like. Combine the aforementioned with Adams using his legs and it was a career performance.

Still no running game was not a surprise but screen passes to Mizzell and check down passes to Cottoy were a good alternative to the run game.

Defense played well but Stamps still got 30 points and close to 300 yards passing. Lions D will need a stronger outing against the Bombers.

VA's 413 yards passing today was a single game club playoff record — eclipsing Roy Dewalt's 375 yard total in the 1983 Western Final. He also tied the club record for most TDs in a single playoff game with three.

Keon Hatcher's last 3 playoff games:
9 catches 195 yards 2023 Western Semi-Final
7 catches 133 yards 2022 Western Final
8 catches 162 yards 2022 Western Semi-Final

Vernon Adams played great and gave some credit to his father in the stands for his running more or he'd have heard it from his dad.

Josh Woods 11 tackles, 1 pass deflection - Great performance

Lucky for BC that Calgary weren't able to run the ball (unlike the Bombers will be able next week).

A head scratcher with the score 38-19 was Stamps gambling at 11:30 in the 4th Q on 3rd and 4 and still didn't punt after a 5yd penalty making it 3rd and 9 .

If Stamps punted and held BC to a 2 and they got the FG and the 8 pt TD, they'd have been a second 8 point TD from tying the game.

Instead that FG for BC from 30 yards from the turnover gave them a bigger mountain than if they punted and held BC.

The real key to the victory is that the Lions weren't faced with 3rd and short and having Dominique Davis come in.
