Injuries are mounting for the Lions. Four players who started last week's debacle in Winnipeg have been ruled out of Saturday's home game against Calgary: QB Dane Evans (ribs), WR Dominique Rhymes (knee again), CB Jalon Edwards-Cooper (knee) and DE Sione Teuhema (ankle). Backup LB/ST Isaiah Messam (foot) also remains out. The Lions should have Vernon Adams back as starting quarterback, and Justin McInnis can step in for Rhymes at receiver again. On defence, it will be interesting to see whether the Lions pull free agent Mike Jones (Achilles) off the 6-game injured list to start at CB for Edwards-Cooper. The Lions also have national DBs Siriman Bagayogo and Patrice Rene on the roster. Similarly on the defensive line, the Lions could start veteran national David Menard in Teuhema's spot, where he lined up for much of training camp, or give rookie Amir Siddiqi his first start.

Don't have good feeling about this game at all. We know the Stamps are better than their 3-5 record as most of those losses easily could have gone the other way minus some Maier gaffs. We have also won 4 of our last 5 against them.

Four starters out and we don't really even know how close VA is to 100 percent but without Evans he knew he had to start this week.

And not good that our two highest paid receivers are hardly certainty to be in the line-up every week.

The Lions have released their depth chart for Saturday. Mike Jones has been activated from the 6-game injured list at cornerback to replace Jalon Edwards-Cooper, who has placed on the 6-game injured list. Tibo Debaillie moves into the starting lineup at nose tackle, with Woody Baron sliding out to defensive end to replace Sione Teuhema. DT Josh Banks also returns after missing last week’s game in Winnipeg. On offence, Vernon Adams returns as starting QB and Justin McInnis fills in for Dominique Rhymes, who has also been placed on the 6-game injured list. Rookie Chase Brice is activated as third-string QB. Kienan LaFrance also moves to the 6-game injured list, leaving the Lions without a backup RB again.

Offensively for BC, the Lions will do what they always do with VA back at QB and if he's on they'll be in this game.

I'm confident we'll see nothing new here as these dudes are pretty conservative.

Two of the worst play callers are out McAdoo (replaced by Jarius who is maybe a bit better than the former) and Tommy Condell who seemed to have let the CFL game pass him by.

While I'm not sure the Stamps victory over the Argos with Chad Kelly out with an injury in the first half has any specific defensive lessons for the Lions, it was clear that the Stamp's game plan which changed to even more running when Kelly when out included a lot of running the ball.

https://3downnation.com/2023/08/05/stam ... -thoughts/

Dickenson's game plan was to cut down Maier's screw-ups with more running that only ended up even more running with Kelly's injury.
For the first time this season, Maier and the offence were able to go without a turnover and the pivot finished the day with just two incompletions on 24 attempts.

The flip side of that high completion rate was that Maier almost never went downfield with the ball, and finished with just 149 yards through the air. No receiver had a catch of more than 14 total yards.
Mills grinds them down

After last week’s loss, I wrote that Dederick Mills didn’t get the ball nearly often enough. I won’t take any credit for the game plan this week, but Mills got the ball a total of 31 times between his 27 rushing attempts and four catches for a total of 155 all-purpose yards, 137 of those on the ground.

It was a performance that set the Stampeders on the path to victory, as they were able to keep the ball for almost two-thirds of the game and ran 63 offensive plays compared to the Argos’ 37.
Backup Dedrick Mills, who sits second in the CFL with 96 carries for 483 yards and three touchdowns, will remain on the roster behind Carey. First-year CFLer LeVante Bellamy will be a healthy scratch.

Lions scoring on all three first possessions for a great 17-0 lead!

Great job so far, but Lions better not get complacent which is what happened to the Eskimos after they blew a huge lead and lost to the Blue Bombers.

Shut the sound off of TSN and turned on 730 with Moj and Carravatta.

Shut it off and put TSN on again. They sound like 2 childish elementary school children.

Embarrassing.

I wondered if the Lion's pride was going to be hurt after the shellacking they got at the hands of the Bombers. Sometimes a good thumping is a good motivator.

Excellent recovery from the Adams interception with a punt block and a quick TD.

27-3 Lions. :towel:

The Calgary punter hurt himself practicing on the sidelines prior to that blocked punt. Seemed to bobble the snap, so maybe focusing on his landing knee. However, Betts was unblocked and in there so fast, I don't think it mattered, but will be interesting to see how his kicks are balance of game.
