Can't help but feel positive about today's vaccine plan news from Dr. Bonnie.
It is interesting that she cites evidence from Canada, UK and Israel to support the idea that a single dose can provide protection for 4 months... even though none of these jurisdictions have had vaccination programs in place for even 3 months.

As Canada's Canada's chief science adviser says, "it amounts right now to a basically population level experiment".

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/nemer- ... -1.5932714

Oh well. All we can do is hope.
Yesterday Dr. Henry doubled down on this 4 month assertion, with the news that new vaccine supply will instead be going to first doses rather than second doses.

In the US, this Biden promise "by the end of May" will make pro sports leagues happy.

After fans were allowed in only 3 NHL venues at the start of the season

17 teams are allowing/have announced plans to have masked socially distanced seating.
https://www.wbal.com/article/502732/3/t ... 9-list/amp
In a related development, 17 of the NHL’s 31 teams now have plans in place allowing a limited number of fans to attend home games after the Philadelphia Flyers announced they will begin doing so at 15% of their arena’s capacity.
All of these are US teams, so that will leave only 7 non-Canadian teams who have yet to announce a plan.

Of course, it could be argued that Canadian teams having zero game postponements is indicative of the more prudent approach being smarter.

According to Global Noon News NACI (National Advisory Commission on Immunization) is now supporting Dr. Bonnie's recommendation. Newfoundland & Labrador and Manitoba are following suit. Ontario and Alberta are reportedly about to do the same.

I understand the rationale for this approach, but let's see it for what it is: an extremely risky gamble necessitated by an unwillingness to take adequate measures to control transmission and a total reliance on other countries to provide vaccine supply.

Bc is providing leadership on vaccine plans and other provinces are looking to follow our lead. This is great news! A return to a better normal sooner than expected. Be optimistic its here! The beginning of the end!

Agreed. Dr. Bonnie Henry said Thursday that she hopes we’ll be in a post-pandemic world by summer.

I don't know if she's a passionate Lions' fan but she said she prefers three-down football. That's another reason to like her. :)

I think the reference by Dr Henry to data from Canada, the UK, Israel is referring to the over 90% effectiveness of the vaccine.

While the drug companies stand by the 4 week interval for the second shot, my take is that Dr. Henry in an effort to get the vaccine into as many arms as possible ASAP, is willing to have the effectiveness of the 1st shot start to diminish past the drug company's 4 week time frame since it is starting out with a very high effective rate and thus should still be effective enough to keep people out of hospital, but no longer 90% effective.

Just watching the daily briefing from the PM and other fed health officials. Pfizer is accelerating deliveries with 1.5M expected this month. They are now expecting overall vaccine deliveries of an additional 2M doses by the end of this month giving them 8M doses to the end of the month, up from 6M. Tack on today's approval of J&J with deliveries expected to start in April and it's looking like rollout plans will be accelerating rapidly even from what Dr. Bonnie etal were offering on Monday.

Based on today’s announcements there is expected to be enough vaccine in the system to give at least one dose to all Canadians by the end of June. Manitoba officials said all eligible residents could receive one dose by as early as May 18.

The science advisor who spoke out has changed ber tune. The oifficial postion is noiw recommending a time delay between shots of up to 4 months. And wes arent alone, the UK has made similar moves. It pays to have scientists who can drill down into the issues and lkeasrn new ways to proced when tge facts light the way and B?c is the lkeader in Canada and other orovinces are following us. Yea! Bonnie!

Adrian Dix is cautioning people to expect "some Covid restrictions" into the fall in response to questions about when major events such as PNE, Celebration of Lights and concerts could be starting up. Matt Baker's recent talk with Rick Lalacheur sounded like the Lions would be happy to have Season Ticket holders in the stands. I didn't get the sense that he was expecting unrestricted walk up availability, but I may have missed that.

Afew thoughts about this season. First I would suggest a phased approach. Each game will will provide guidance for subsequent game conditions.. So, for the first game sell all the seats and have f people scanning fans as they enter to ensure no one is displaying covidsymptoms. Masks must be worn entering and leaving and when leaving their assigned seating. All event staff must have been vaccinated in the weeks before game days. Hire additional security to ensure that people are following the mask rules and don't hang out in the concession areas. The ticket data bank will enable the health authority to contact trace any outbreaks that arise publicize the rules prior to game day get lots of press coverage. Throw out any anti maskers immediately and if they cause a disturbance charge them and have police available to act if required . and make sutre anyone who geys charged is forbidden to attend lion games gor the rest of the season. Anyone got anything they csn asdd that can assist the ?lions in playing this sesson?

Some of those things will likely be in place. Much will depend on where we are related to Covid come that time. Whatever Bonnie allows will likely be applicable to all stadiums, arenas and events in BC. I doubt your idea of vaccinating all staff will be enforceable. Event staff work for BC Place thus are Pavco employees and members of the BCGEU. If their seniority has them eligible to work shifts during the game could they be denied work because they haven't been vaccinated perhaps only because their turn/age bracket to get vaccinated hasn't come up yet? The reality is whatever conditions/restrictions are to be in place for fan attendance for Lions games will be a multi-way conversation between Provincial/Municipal Health Authorities, the CFL/Lions and PAVCO/BC Place.
