I would welcome Bene back as DC in a heartbeat.

i) Cut veterans who aren't performing before their contract is guaranteed for the rest of the year. (hello Odell Willis).
For shats and giggles I went through the roster and offer the following:

Players who had to be cut before the Winnipeg game to avoid contracts being guaranteed:
Bartel, Burnham, Carter, Figueroa, Grymes, Lee, Lemon, Menard, Reilly, Rutley (on 1G), Steward, White IV, Willis.

Players who must be cut prior to Saturday's game vs Hamilton to avoid contracts being guaranteed:
Chungh, Durant, Harris, Konar, Lankford, O'Brien.

Players who must be cut prior to BC's game out in Montreal on September 6 to avoid contracts being guaranteed:
Castillo, Doll, Shaq Johnson, Peters, Thompson, Allen (on 6G), Barnett (on 6G), Woodman (on 6G).

The only ones on this list I could see being cut are Peters, Thompson, and Castillo (if Ty Long is cut and wants to come back).

I don't even know who Doll is? Never heard of him. Does he play on special teams?

I think Rolly Lumbala still lives in the lower mainland, and is working as a personal trainer. He couldn't be any worse than Atillio, and he would be a positive influence in the room.
Let Lumbala just play!!!!

He could add leadership here.

Getting Long back if he became available would be a no-brainer. He is in a punting competition with Ty Newsome in LA. So far he's doing nothing to harm himself in that competition. He has 3 punts for a 46.3 average today. A few minutes ago he boomed a 56 yarder that rolled out of bounds at the New Orleans 7. Newsome just came in for his first 2 punts of the game and kicked one 50 then another of 43 for a 46.5 average. In the first preseason game both had 2 punts with Long averaging 52.0 and Newsome 41.5. It's interesting that prior to Long's first punt the CBS broadcast crew mentioned the competition and figured Long had an advantage because he also was a holder on placekicks. Obviously that was something he didn't have to do in BC. However one would think that even though the NFL likes their specialists that fact that Long also placekicks would have to help his cause.
