Where on earth is Winnipeg getting all this $? No recession in Manitoba?
I am beginning to think they are willing to pay any and all fines for going over the salary cap. Either that or they have Bernie Madoff working their books...
How is Winnipeg affording all this?

Absurd comment. Some players will be traded or cut before SMS starts adding up. No different than what Ottawa did last year for example.

I looked at their roster about 10 days ago and hard a hard time figuring out where they had any significant amount of money tied up anywhere. Bryant and Westerman were their big signings last year. Willy of course. Dressler in, Moore out is a wash. Letting Walker, Shell and Washington walk. After that nobody stands out as carrying a big ticket.CardiacKid wrote:Where on earth is Winnipeg getting all this $? No recession in Manitoba?

You're as old as you've ever been and as young as you're ever going to be.

Good for him. He should know that aside from bonus / upfront money that the SMS $$'s don't start adding up until rosters are declared after TC.CardiacKid wrote:Hmmm...really? We released Picard earlier and he was reportedly making $225K. Moore was $180K. Not sure how much Peach, Anderson and Turner make but I could see them a trade or release before TC.
Hurl was making near $140K - $150K and I expect to re-negotiate, be traded or released.
Washington not re-signed and a few others gone to free agency today.
Speculation that Denmark could be traded / released. However, who knows who ends up on IR after TC. Money spent is a week to week analysis each week during the season.

Maybe the Bombers are taking a page out of the Rider playbook. Load up for a run at the Grey Cup and pay the price later.

So far during the FA feeding frenzy, the Bombers have signed:
-Andrew Harris
-Ryan Smith
-Justin Medlock
-Jeff Keeping
-Euclid Cummings
-Keith Shologan
Add to that list Weston Dressler.
Did they just become the front runner for 2016 Grey Cup or ?

More likely, because this is Winnipeg, it will backfire spectacularly and everyone will be fired.CardiacKid wrote:So far during the FA feeding frenzy, the Bombers have signed:

No. They still have some significant issues on the OL. Still need to replace Peach at DE and need at least 1 new DB to replace Washington.CardiacKid wrote:So far during the FA feeding frenzy, the Bombers have signed:

Yesterday's signings have improved the roster and may have done enough to be making a fight out of it for 3rd place.

Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Former Bomber Doug Brown now writes for the Winnipeg Free Press and a little while ago chimed in about the Blue Bombers going nutso in FA window.
Love the headline...."Bombers got drunk on free agents, now face the hangover".
