GB picked the wrong time to surrender their first two goals. Up to today they haven't given up a goal

Gold for Canada.
Rosannagh MacLennan. In trampoline.
Well that's a cool sport. Dunno about some of these events. LOL
But if they play it, we'll take the gold medal, and thank you.
Back in 2010, my feeling was that Own the Podium was setting us up for huge disappointment. How wrong I was. I like the highest expectations, but thought that making it so public would backfire from pressure. Well it sure did work, and continues to work, with a new name added.
Very proud of Canada for hundreds of reasons, athletics being somewhere in the middle of the list.

Canada and US tied 3-3 in extra time. Some very questionable calls in this game
all 4 goals are on the goalie.
first goal, it is goalies responsibility to ensure that there is a player by the nearside post on corner kicks. Inexcusable that no one was anywhere near.
second goal, on that angle of shot, from the point of shot, the goalie should have intercepted the ball. Very slow reflex and poor positioning.
third goal, bonehead move hanging onto the ball too long and drawing the first of the back to back penalty shots. Ref made the right call.
fourth goal, the goalie was in the right spot, then moved a step forward before the shot, allowing the ball to go over her hand and drop in behind. If she had stayed put, she would have successfully blocked the shot, most likely sending it over the net.
as for questionable reffing, let us not be unduly influenced by biased announcers.
If the Canadian goalie was better, then none of the "questionable" reffing would have mattered.
If the game went to shootout, usa was guaranteed to win.

Go Japan
Sorry, don't agree upon the third goal and the ref influencing the games outcome. Had it been a ref from the Premier league, it would have never been called, it was an over zealous call made by a female ref that is/was out of her league. When you are on the world stage, have access to the best refs in the world, why aren't they utilized? Just because the gender came into play, it is crazy to me in the Olys to have refs that don't measure up to the level of play.KnowItAll wrote:all 4 goals are on the goalie.

Unfortunate for the result that Canada received, they played way beyond expectations, yet looked comfortable in doing so. Now if there was one change that I would have liked to see during the entire run, was the keeper, she wasn't at the level necessary for the tournament.

FIFA is now launching an investigation into the activities following the game ie what the Canadian women said about the refereeing after the game. Seems to me they should be investigating the referee

I have to agree with KIA to an extent.
The goalie badly misplayed the third US goal. Soft header just under the bar.
Also apparently a linesman warned her about holding the ball. And she held it for almost double the allowed time. Why even leave that possible call out there?
The ref can live with shame now. She can narrowly justify her decisions, but she also will know that she reversed the outcome of the game. She decided the outcome, in what has been called the greatest female soccer game ever played. She took the game away from one team, and gave it to the other. Best to let the players decide the game.

On a positive note, Canada won an unexpected bronze medal in men's high jump.

Which also disrupts the Canadian's preparation for the French team for the bronze medal....sigh. What a mess an official that isn't qualified can do if you let her.TheLionKing wrote:FIFA is now launching an investigation into the activities following the game ie what the Canadian women said about the refereeing after the game.
