Oct. 10 and playoff spot clinched!!!

Wow! Who would have thought that back on Aug. 13 after the Lions were steamrolled 30-17 by the Bombers at Empire and fell to 1-6. An amazing turnaround and what a battle for the top 3 positions in the West.

What makes the Lions' schedule interesting is back-to-back away then home. Wouldn't it be something if the Lions and Montreal were both playing to clinch first on Nov. 5 at B.C. Place?

Remaining games:

B.C.: Home — Edmonton, Montreal. Away — Saskatchewan, Hamilton.

Calgary: Home — Saskatchewan, Winnipeg. Away — Toronto, Montreal.

Edmonton: Home — Winnipeg, Saskatchewan. Away — Toronto, B.C.

I really want to see a home playoff game this yr.

But yeah, at one point even I had just about lost hope for this yr.

Re: Oct. 10 and playoff spot clinched!!!

Given how the Lions are playing I really do not see a reason why they cannot host a playoff game, or even be in first place. They are currently the hottest team in the league and given the 3 teams involved I think that they have the easiest schedule coming down the stretch.

I think that it will come down to the game in BC between them and the Eskimos. If they win that then they have the tie breakers against all of the other. If Edmonton wins then it is the same thing. I think that Calgary will finish second with either Edmonton or BC finishing first.

Winning out is the only sure way to keep 1st. I don't think any of the teams in the West have a particularly easy schedule because all the teams except Toronto and Sask are vying for playoff position and possible home games. No one is likely to be resting starters because they have yet to establish if they are to get a home game or even first. That is huge IMO so I'm afraid there is no game for us to take off.

:crow: Okay I deserve to chow down on a plate. I didn't think the Lions would make the playoffs let alone be in first place at this point (or any point) of the season. THis is turning into one of those special seasons but as many pointed out earlier its how it ends that is as important as anything.....

I bought a Grey Cup ticket a year ago and I sure hope I get to see a team dressed in Orange playing in it.....

You're not the only one. The way they played the first half dozen games, you would think the Lions were still in training camp

Don't feel bad, there are a lot of us that have chocked on some black feathers this year. I take some solace that even the knowledgeable CFL folks who have been making a living off these games for years didn't see this coming. The reason is pretty simple, it doesn't happen very often. A team playing bad usually continues to play bad. Toronto and Saskatchewan are what most teams do that play as badly as we did out of the gate.

Hamilton? I kid, I kid. :tease:

Go Lions.

And FTR, go to the CFL Team Rankings thread on August 10th; my two buttcheeks were still firmly planted on the "Lions in 2011" wagon.

Ah *frig* that... no crow dude. I've said all the same *poop* everyone else has and we were correct. The Lions sucked, the coaching sucked, the players sucked. They got their *poop* together, the OC read Lionbackers and headed, the players got it together and now look... hey, we're eaten' nuthin but filet man. :rockin:

This marks 15 straight years the Lions have made the playoffs, one year behind Montreal for the longest current streak in the league. According to a news release sent out by the team today, the Lions are only two years behind the second longest alltime playoff streak of 17 years, set by Winnipeg between 1980 and 1996, but they're not even half way to Edmonton's record of 34 straight playoff appearances between 1972 and 2005. With the parity in the league these days, that record might never be broken.

I can't recall the last time we clinched a berth this early (2005, maybe, with that 11-0 start before it all fell apart? Or maybe it was the franchise-best 14-win season two years later). Every year it seems like no matter how well we're playing, it's always come in the last week or two. Last year we needed both a road win in Ham in our last game and also needed Edm to lose in Ssk later that same day to avoid a tiebreaker that would have dropped us to 4th and out of the postseason. The year before that, it was also out of our hands as we had already finished our schedule and needed Ham to pick up a road win in the Peg on the last day to allow us to claim a crossover berth.

Glad we've gotten that bit of business out of the way relatively early this year — in a year with one of our worst starts, of all years. :hypno:
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Clinching the playoff spot is just step 1.

Step 2: clinch home playoff game

Step 3: clinch 1st place

Step 4: Win the playoff game

Step: Win the Grey Cup
