Club has released WR Steven Black (a bit of a surprised for me but Wally said he hadn't shown enough improvement in his 2nd year) and DB Marquez Hall.

Have an import running back at practice today - Dennis Kennedy from Akron (got the scoop Cromartie?).

Wally pursuing RB Arkee Whitlock after he was released yesterday by the Esks. Tillman offered to trade him to the Lions, Wally said no. Now he's going after him as a FA. Likes that he can return kicks.

Yes.

He has poor taste in educational institutions.

In all seriousness, not really. Doesn't stick out.

That should help.

Akron's been a pretty bad program. Don't get overly impressed with the 277 yds against Eastern, you or I could put up close to 200 on them.

Seems to run a 4.4 40 which, at 5' 10" is a good thing.

He can? He didn't return any for the Esks last year. Nor punts, nor missed field goals. Whitlock was released by the Esks because he couldn't hold on to the ball. Add your own punch line.

Falls into the category of filling your roster with former bitter players of your competition, hoping that you gain some insight to their strategies and views of the Lions strengths/weaknesses. If Witlock was to be signed, he would be one of Dennis (just prior to the Hamilton game), Kornegay (signed just prior to the Riders game) and now Witlock. There is a pattern, and you can derive one or two negative reasons, one that the Lions need the inside information on opponents in order to prepare for them, or two, the current lineup is so poor as to allow three cast offs to start for the Lions, let alone make the roster. Add to that the addition of Kelly Bates and you can understand why the Lions are currently the free space on the CFL bingo card.

Cutting Steven Black is a joke! Dropsem Collins has been absolutely lousy the entire season and he's still here?? Where's the accountability?

Eh, how Dropson can stick, and Black be waived, is beyond me, however we are 0-5 so no one really should be untouchable.

Dropson starts catching the ball he can have his name back

sixbeamers Mike Beamish
Nick Moore replaces WR Dobson Collins with B.C. Lions first-team offence. Collins in doghouse for three drops against Winnipeg
Nice, think it is two games overdue though.

Veteran defensive back Davis Sanchez not on field or sidelines at B.C. Lions practice Monday
Oh boy, hmm, tbh he just has not been very good this season, do not want to wish him ill as he has been a warrior in this game for a long time, but it would not be a shock.

I think that the Lions would have elaborated on this if they were moving him, as he does possess an NI beside his name a factor that the Lions seem desperate for in 2011(unless of course you have RB beside that).

Seems to be a purrfect fit with the Lions' receiving corp.

It appears as though Davis Sanchez may be placed on the nine game list after issues with his elbow have flared up. Did not practice today.
And that could be all she wrote for Davis Sanchez.

I don't think they need former players to reveal anything to them. they got film enough on other teams.

What the Kornegay and possibly Whitlock signings do though is admit you have issues with your talent.

Wally doesn't trade for them as he doesn't need to and would not want their high salaries.

Translation - to come to BC both take pay cuts or they dont get signed.

It was mentioned that Dave Valli hurt his shoulder at practice today, how seriously it is tweaked remains to be seen.

Absolutely awful season but still within breathing room (let alone shouting distance) of the playoffs. Black is further proof that some people get just a few shots. He came on strong at the second half of last season but there is no way, IMO, he's had the same opportunity to fumble, stumble and drop the way other recievers have, even this season.

Sanchez? Don't know if its injuries or pastalavista. Regardless, he'd said some things that kinda hinted that he knew this season was it.

I know its far too early to totally declare this roster move, but overall, I'm happy with the McCallum or White issue being closed. Buono got good value and I'm glad with what we still are getting out of McCallum. So, Buono. Make more decisions like this one, if possible....
