Wally should step down as HC and Fire Chapdelaine

I'm a long-time Lions fan and felt compelled to join and vent my anger about this team. There had been such high hopes with Vancouver hosting the Grey Cup this season and Lions improving their troubled areas with talent. This is a talented team, but just can't seem to get it together. Dropped passes, poor tackling, dumb penalties, turnovers, etc. Wally should do the right thing for the organization, fans and step down now. Bring in someone new with a fresh approach. Prefably from outside the organization. For whatever reason, this team and organization has not be very good the last few season under Wally. Lions look to be on pace for another 1-7 start. Not been impressed with Wally's tenture since he came to B.C. Without a doubt, he cost the Lions 2004 Grey Cup with the whole Printers circus and playing someone from his Calgary "oldboys" network, Dickenson. Wally didn't seem to learn from this as he brought Printers back again last year and we saw how well that turned out. Wally may be the all time winniest coach in CFL history, but how many times have we seen him choke in the playoffs both in B.C. and Calgary? Some former players have come out and said in no certain terms, he's not a very nice guy to play for. Chapdelaine. Why was he not fired after last season? His playing calling is so predictable and running game is non-existant. Lions have too much of this "old boys" network mentality. Braley is too buddy buddy with Wally. Lions keep playing this way and they will start losing fans and expect to see attendence down for the next home game.

I am going to let you in on something, take a look at the Lions attendance and ST holder base, they are losing fans each year since the hosting the last GC.

While the header is sensational most here will not want all this disaster as doing this stuff rarely turns out well mid year.
They are 0 and 3 and a few wins can make this a whole lot better. Two games were winnable. The Esks game was not that close but face it the Esks are the toast of the West right now and look like they could give Montreal a run. The Lions could look like the Riders but they do not.
Don't compare Wally Buono to other successful coaches right now. Just compare him to the alternative! And the alternative now is even uglier.
Just like players you can't call Personnel and say send me 6 new coaches Monday morning and have them on the job come Tuesday.
As to the OC if there was any accountability in this org. he'd have not been brought back by Wally after the Edmonton debacle. Wally even said so himself but relented due to his senior players wanting him.
The early years of the Lions had all that sensational stuff going on here and it never led to a better team. It rarely does.
What the Esks did last year was done as Tillman was unemployed and they knew he'd need time to right their ship. That was a no brainer hire given what he has done in the recent past. Who would this genius be who could come in as HC and OC? It would be wrong to do that mid season.
Which coach can take over now and make a difference? They can't.
Maybe what Wally needs to do BUT WON'T is to bring in some CFL offensive coaching experience and lay it out for JC this way. Listen and get input and make changes fast or I can't keep you next year.

Hmmm, a brand new member joins the forum and immediately spews forth a string of comments that sound eerily familiar, using the exact words and phrasing as prior posts.
Ladies & Gentlemen! Your attention please! I believe we have a troll in our midst. I suggest you remain calm an do not fall for his trollish behaviour. The most effective way to deal with this kind of activity is to ignore it. DO NOT respond to the negative comments. DO NOT call the troll out. That is precisely what he is hoping for.
Oh, crap! I've gone and stirred the pot! We're doomed, I tell you DOOMED! What have I done?

What's your problem? Do you judge everyone new who joins the forum? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that's what I did. Not trolling in the least. Judging from your post, seems you're intent on stirring the pot and you come across quite immature.

Printers was hurt with a bad shoulder and turf-toe, that's why Dickenson played the last part of the WDF and the Grey Cup.
We lost the Grey Cup in 2004 because of bad punting and defensive play, not because of Dickenson's play.
Wally appeases the fans and brings back Printers, but it does not work out. How can you blame him for trying? Wally thought two steps ahead and had Lulay ready to go. Not many coaches would have had that foresight.
Your comments on Chapdelaine are welcome and valid, but putting 100% of the blame on Wally and none on the players is not fair. It is still a team game.

I agree that Wally stepping down as HC or changing OC in mid season is a really bad option, but no worries as it will not happen. But hopefully it will happen in the off season when more coaching replacements are available.
There might have been coaching changes made at the end of last year based on the start of the season but negated by the strong finish. We may be in a similar situation this year, so I am taking the position that I want Lion victories but am consoled with loses as they are viewed as nails in the coaches coffin.

How about an ORANGE boycott? The team has asked us to wear ORANGE and be the PRIDE of BC. Wearing your teams colours makes sense but if we suggest a boycott of the teams colours they still get us coming to the game. They have the opportunity to get us to want to wear orange again. I'll never wear green to a Lions game but I'm not so sure about wearing orange through another funky year.

Do you think there'd be any way we could get Scott Milanovich to come to BC?

I know it is a real pipe dream but Mike Leech could really shake up the offense as an OC maybe even a HC. Can't see it happening though

I'm sure Riley could be had if Braley wants to offer him a compensation package in the area of $3 million per season because that's what it would take to even consider something other than his "set for life" situation down at Oregon State. When Pete Carroll bolted from his $3 million salary to join the Seahawks last year rumours were USC was after Riley. Before they could get him he agreed to an additional 3 years on his OSU deal. Riley is under contract through the end of the 2019 season and his deal automatically rolls over another year every time the Beavers make a Bowl appearance.

This thread is starting out like a carbon copy of the vigil ante lynch mob in Regina where they are calling for every head except Gainer's. Fire Hopson. Fire Taman. Fire Marshall and fire the OC and DC Berry and Hall. The offence is too predictable is the other lament from the disgruntled masses. I'm not a fan of such moves in the middle of the season as they rarely achieve more than average success. Biggest problem is only people who couldn't find a job in the offseason are available and if they achieve only moderate success i.e. .500 football the rest of the season you're almost obligated to give them an extension.
It's really far too early to pull the hair trigger on anybody. The Lions started with arguably the top 2 teams in Montreal and Calgary according to pre-season prognosticators. Then they faced the surprising Eskimos who may be playing best of all. Looking forward the schedule is a whole lot friendlier for a team desperately trying to find their game. Over the next several weeks BC sees Hamilton, Winnipeg, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg again before a rematch with the Esks. 3 of the next 4 are at home, although the Tempire record doesn't give one a warm and fuzzy feeling. Then they hit Labour Day and a home and home with the Argos. Getting to 5-5 after the Argo set is totally achievable. The table is set for them to get out of this funk. It's up to them to seize the opportunity.

I'm not a big proponent of firing mid season but I will make an exception if they can Chapdelaine. I've had enough of his pop gun offence.
