Quite agree. Too many dumb decisions affecting the quality of play. Starting 4 Rookies is just too risky (starting ONE may be too risky!) especially when there is greybeard talent on the sideline. That's just dumb, Wally!

Criticism of the play calling equally valid, especially inside the last minute when the game could be won by foot. No outs or curls in the playbook? No "two minute drill" specialties? Just bombs away?

It hurts to see some of the talent being abused this way. There are problems here, but they are coaching problems, not players.

The game has past Wally a few years ago. But there year is Wally has made some of the worst decisions I have seen.

Too much talent on the team to be 0-2. We can't close out the game.....good coaches win close games.

I don't know about that, good players win just as many of those close games IMO. I can't understand why our new receivers choose their profession, but last week Moore and this week Collins and Black can't seem to catch any better than a DB. The one positive on Collins that I saw was at least two very nice blocks for long plays, an aspect that the Lions have been very very poor at over the years.

Play calling was ridiculous once again.

1st off, they need to find a running game. If they can't opposition D is just going to key on the pass

2nd. Too many deep throws. Ball control game lacking as a result

3. Special Teams, Kicking is a problem. While they were deep, not enough hang time. Gave Calgary too much of a head of steam on run backs. That cost us on several occasion in points and field position.

4. Tackling. Once again, too many failures to wrap up opposing players. Too many times, players trying to take opposition out by taking their eyes of the player and trying to knock them down at the leg, only to have the player stop and let them sail by. Cost us some big yardage on several plays.


The Good

Oline did a good job of giving Lulay time


Overall summary - too many missed opportunities. Calgary could have gifted us this game with the mistakes they made but we failed to bury them when we had a chance and in the end we gave too much back to overcome. Until we get a playbook that shows some creativity and diversity, we are going to struggle. It is only going to get worse as the season progresses.

I will add that as frustrating a loss this was, IMO the Lions of 2009 or 2010 would have found a way to lose by 20

There's a lot to comment about in this game, including dropped passes, missed tackles and missed opportunities to score on five Calgary turnovers, but two blown coaching decisions in the fourth quarter were the reason the Lions lost.

In the CFL, you should NEVER attempt a two-point conversion with more than eight minutes left in the game, and then do so only if it's a low-scoring game and you don't expect to get another scoring opportunity. The Lions attempted one with 10 minutes left in the game. That's an eternity. As it turned out, the Stamps later scored two field goals and the Lions scored another touchdown. If the Lions had simply kicked the convert on the first TD of the fourth quarter, they could have done so on the second TD and sent the game to overtime.

The second bad coaching decision was blowing a time out on the Calgary field goal attempt late in the game. If the Lions had saved the time for the final drive, they would have had more time to get the 10 yards they needed for Paul McCallum to kick the winning field goal.

I like Wally and the coaching staff, but poor game management is a big reason why the Lions are 0-2.

So far all they've shown me is that they're the same team as last year but with a better O-line. Some completely bizarre coaching decisions too.

Surprises so far: Foster, Gore (despite the drops, he will be good), Brown, Harris.

Disappointments so far: Banks (he's been invisible), Elimimian (not bad, but not as dominant as last year....maybe I just expected more?), Black, Hyland (what happened to his tackling?), Robertson (need to get him more involved with the swing pass out of the backfield), Sanchez (I have to believe his arm is still bothering him).

When Buono had another brain fart and went for the 2 pt. conversion with 9 minutes left, I said to my friend that decision is going to bite the Lions in the ass. What a dumb call.

To make matters worse, Wally admitted on the post game show that he did so in an attempt to ice the kicker. Are you kidding me? Ice the kicker?? The kid had just made a 50 yarder. I don't think a what, 20 or 25 yarder(?) was going to phase him.

And to have so many receivers struggle and not use the sure handed and versatile veteran Peterson - who just stood in uniform on the sidelines all night.

Then I couldn't believe Paul actually tried a 57 yarder into the cool, dead air at Empire Field with a slight breeze blowing in his face. Did they not have a trick play to use whereby Jarious takes the snap and finds, say, a streaking Jamall Lee or Shawn Gore running down the sidelines on the fake field goal??

Not a pass to Shawn Gore He was an adventure out there all night, even on passes he was able to catch. On second thought, a last second pass to Gore would probably fool the Calgary defenders. Who would have thought ??

yes yes and yes totally agree with all points and especially with the running game part. Where the heck is it, and time to look for more talent in that area other then Robertson.

Eh, I think Gore, Collins, Black, maybe Geroy, Robertson, Lulay, need to man up and simply make the plays they should make, not the spectacular ones, just the simple ones.

Last Week I thought the Al's out played us, this week, I think we beat ourselves, just to many missed opportunities, they were practically trying to give us the game and of course, we dropped it.
