Interesting how they say next year's crop is stronger. Even this year seemed to have loads of good young talent.

The draft to me is like going in to Future Shop to see what new products there are. Ha ha

From this fan's perspective, it worked out well. I liked Iannuzzi from the time I looked at his YouTube recruiting video. We got a kicker who it seems is as highly rated as any to come along in years. Got a 1st for Sean Whyte. And some other promising pieces in later rounds.

Well done, Wally and Mike and Neil and the rest of the staff.

Drafts are only rated after 2 or 3 seasons, then you find who selected what. As for Watkins and Atogwe, both as IR were mid round NFL prospective draft choices when the Lions selected them with potential of moving up on each account. Now had they dropped off the radar, the Lions may have been stuck with them as well, the draft is a crapshoot and on those two we struck out. It is always fun swinging for the fences when you have the bases loaded as the Lions generally do.

Odd that Montréal chose (especially with a first round pick) Brody McKnight if the Sean Whyte trade was already made "at 8am". I wonder if the Lions had their eyes on the Montana alum originally? :hmm:

Yeah, that was curious.

Maybe it was part of the deal with the Als. We get O'Neill. You get McKnight. You get Whyte. We get your 2012. McKnight is a future also.

It looks like Montréal's first choice was O'Neill, but why would they draft another Kicker in the first round? http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/A ... story.html

Insurance possibly. Despite the high sentiments on this website re: Whyte he still hasn't proven anything beyond having potential. There would be far more pressure on him as the only kicker in town versus being the backup/understudy. All indications are he's up to the task but he wouldn't be the first promising young kicker to struggle once he became THE man. Also Whyte I believe is entering his option year and would need to be re-signed by Montreal for them to have a kicker beyond 2011. Having another kicking asset to compete with/push Whyte or to give them a Plan B should he falter or play out his option is prudent IMHO. Guaranteed they were going to bring another kicker to camp anyways. They weren't going to give Whyte the keys to the tee uncontested based on a few solid cameo appearances.
