As Fans, What do we do?
Vote on the direction that you as a fan will take. Feel free to add your own material, I am sure that there are a ton of options.
Entertainment value = an all time low

Did that in 1996 and wrote on it, "Skalbania, khbj lx azf".Canuck_4_Life wrote:Brown paper bag on head?
Well, not really "khbj lx azf", I actually substituted the next letter alphabetically, letter by letter.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Boycott the remaining home games..... hit Braley in the pocket where it hurts the most for a businessman. He'll start to take notice real quick.

Yeah, but what if you've already paid for your STs?Larry Key wrote:Boycott the remaining home games..... hit Braley in the pocket where it hurts the most for a businessman. He'll start to take notice real quick.

Love the Tad Crawford one. How about, enjoy the presence of your fellow fans and wait for the team to catch up with the 2010s.Rammer wrote:Vote on the direction that you as a fan will take. Feel free to add your own material, I am sure that there are a ton of options.

Oh, I don't know, how many years did Adam Rita get to run the place?Larry Key wrote:Boycott the remaining home games..... hit Braley in the pocket where it hurts the most for a businessman. He'll start to take notice real quick.
Re: As Fans, What do we do?
Basically what you're saying is, and I agree with this: if people keep coming to the games in spite of poor team performance, we'll become the Toronto Maple Leafs.jcalhoun wrote:If you want an organization to change, you have to vote with your wallet and make sure the organization knows why they no longer have your support. I didn't go to any games last year because I had a lot of bad experiences at the stadium the year previously. I wrote the Lions a letter, and never received any response: not a phone call, not a letter in reply --nothing. I've had season tickets, and in the past two years the Lions have never contacted me, not even in an attempt to sell me seats. This tells me that they don't want my money, and so I don't give it to them. I still love the CFL. I watch on TSN, I vote online, I post here --I'm part of the increased fan numbers online and on television that will ensure the long term success of the league. I buy my Reebok gear from Sports'NStuff because I value what Ric is doing, and the efforts of Reebok and the league in terms of merchandising. But I'm not going to the stadium until I feel they have addressed the issues this customer was concerned about.

ON that account, Wally is pulling double duty failure.

I've been doing things I've never done before as a Lions fan. I pick the Lions to lose because I'm not putting on the orange-coloured glasses. They have to start winning again before I think they are capable of doing so.

I totally agree with this post. I'll be writing a letter to Dennis Skulsky tomorrow advising him I'll be seriously considering not renewing my season tickets if major changes aren't forthcomingjcalhoun wrote:Hey there,
There are always lots of comments about "bandwagon fans" who abandon the team when it goes through a rough stretch. I'm all for abandoning the team. Yes, yes, I'm not a real fan, blah, blah, blah.

If the Lions aren't willing to address the concerns of fans regarding the offence --that's it's boring, predictable, and generally unenjoyable to watch --then don't give them your money. Write them a letter, post here, call in to Team 1040 during the week, and explain why, then don't go to games.
If there were 15,000 empty seats in two weeks when Calgary swings in, changes would be made.
We've been told as fans, again and again, that we don't know as much about football as Wally Buono. I agree. But I know (and the rest of you know) a lot more about watching football from a fan's perspective than Wally does or ever will. What Wally doesn't understand is the Lions are competing for entertainment dollars pure and simple, and his product isn't entertaining, and it hasn't been for some time. This isn't about winning and losing. It's about entertainment.
Any of you ever been to the symphony? I've had season's tickets a few times. Great value. Now music people can be really snobbish, and there are a handful of concerts every year that are geared to the real afficionados where they play stuff like Mahler or Vaughn Williams that doesn't appeal to average Joes. These concerts don't have crowds like Beethoven's Fifth, Ninth, and the other highlights of classical music that everyone knows. The symphony knows that if they want to pack fannys in the seats, they had better play stuff that everyone knows and wants to hear, no matter what the musical PhD's think about the value of more esoteric music. Wally doesn't get this at all, and neither do the Lions. The best attendance the Lions have had since the '80s was when Flutie was scrambling around and exciting people. We finished third in the division that year and lost in first round of the playoffs. Vancouver doesn't remember that. They remember how entertaining the football was. Wally's job isn't to win --it's to produce an entertaining product that we want to consume. And on that count, he's failed consistently.
Cheers,
James
