Ken Miller's comments after June 24 practice
By Rob Vanstone Thu, Jun 24 2010 COMMENTS(0) Rider Rumblings
Reid: What about Kelly Bates and putting him on the nine-game (injured list)? “He has kind of a persistent injury. Kelly has worked really hard to prepare for this season. To just jettison him would not be a good thing. He provides us some insurance down the road. If we get into that late stretch drive and need a player, he’s a good player. He played well through the pre-season — not just well enough, really, to be in the top seven or so.’’
Derek Meyers, Global: We’ve spent a lot of time talking about defensive ends. Can you comment on your guys on the inside and how important it is to have Adams and Shologan? They’re a couple of holdovers and a couple of anchors who don’t get a lot of publicity. “I’ll tell you, those two guys are ironmen, and it’s a good thing. They play well and they’re mainstays in our defence. If we were going to characterize our defence, sometimes we’d say that we play two big guys and the rest of the guys are linebacker-sized or defensive back kind of players, so it’s really important to have them, and have them play well.’’
Jamie Nye, Rawlco Radio: Now that you know who the 46 men are who will make up your roster, how confident are you going into the 2010 season? “I’m really confident in the 2010 season. I think we have a tremendous group of players. Now that we’re in a situation where we’ll coach to game-plan as opposed to coach to evaluate, we’ll be a dominant force.’’

What would he say? "We really suck, our players suck, our fans put watermelons on their heads, need we say more?"
They will be a very good team this year most likely and will probably compete for first in the Division and I wouldn't put it past them to return to the Grey Cup. Now that sucks!

Tell me how long must a fan be strong? Ans. Always.

Nowhere to go but sideways given that statement, but I do agree with your intention, they will be the team in the West to gun down.Sir Purrcival wrote:What would he say? "We really suck, our players suck, our fans put watermelons on their heads, need we say more?"

A bit of a bold statement by Miller. Seemingly not his style.
But I have no doubt that the Riders will be a good team. Lots of talent. Great culture with that organization now.

Rider fans cant count, they don't know beer is for drinking, and they don't know putting manure on some ones driveway does not produce a healthy harvest.
I'm not watching out for them. Maybe other teams should be watching out for us. Let the season begin.

Week 1 vs MTLJohnHenry wrote:The Riders will have a burr in their saddle after their GC loss, but I don't think their skill level is all that good. I would put Durant on the bottom of the Western QB rankings. Cates at RB is not as productive as Whitlock or Reynolds, although he might grade out better than our Robertson. At receiver, they have a 5-7 import still healing from a serious injury and a gaggle of Canadians. The Riders also lost their 2 all-star DE to the NFL. The Riders could play over their heads and match the Stamps who have dropped down a notch or two, but the Esks look like the team to beat in the West. The Lions are a question mark with so many new faces, but could be competitive if all the pieces fall into place.
5 TD 0 INT
30/44 Completion
478 Yards Passing
5 Carriers for 52 Yards
The rest of the west must be freaking outstanding if he is gonna be ranked 4th.

Also Week 1 vs MTL
Yards Allowed 417
Sacks Allowed 2
Turnovers Given Up 2
Points Allowed 40 (in regulation)
So I think most teams in the west are looking forward to facing Durant and the Riders.

I actually respect Durant more than that. Guy never gives up on a play and he's developed into a very accurate passer. Right now, I would put him in the elite category with Burris and RR in the West (with more upside).

Durant is the most dangerous QB in the league because he is cool under pressure and can put up huge numbers and rally the team from behind. He is also still relatively young and can be forced into turnovers, as the Lions showed last year. The Lions split four games with the Riders last year, with each team winning twice at home, and the games were all close. This will be a great early-season test.

If that last game is any indication, Durant might have got past the last year issues already so forcing turnovers might be a tad tougher this season.B.C.FAN wrote:Durant is the most dangerous QB in the league because he is cool under pressure and can put up huge numbers and rally the team from behind. The Lions best hope that the Riders come in so cocky and thinking the Lions will be a lay down. If the Riders play the way they did against the Als and the Lions as they did against the Esks, then it will be long day at Empire.

If our D can fly around and play like they did on Sunday, no WAY the Wheaties get anywhere close to the number of points they did against the Als. Only thing we have to do better is sustain and complete drives.
