I would consider the crimes and general attitude of Fonyo to be way worse than simply taking steriods and then trying to lie about it. I havent heard of Ben doing anything worse?

Sad yes.... Mr Fonyo's personal demons have been well documented in the news in the past. My hope for him is that he is able to find some kind of understanding of himself. He did a very great thing in raising millions for people who needed help. Unfortunately, it had been very difficult for him to accept the comparisons of another one legged runner.

I will not judge Mr Fonyo; but I do hope that one day he can come to terms with the struggles in his life.

An interesting perspective from his former boss:

"They gave him the Order of Canada based on his accomplishments and they're still there," said Sidhu. "It's not like he didn't do it, or lied about it. He finished his marathon and was an inspiration to a lot of people."

But the Order of Canada has clearly stated their standards:

Membership to the Order of Canada can be terminated if the recipient:

1. Has been convicted of a criminal offence.
2. Departs from generally recognized standards of public behaviour.
3. Has been sanctioned by a professional organization.

Other Canadians who have lost the Order of Canada include former NHL Players' Association head Alan Eagleson, after he was convicted of fraud, and lawyer T. Sher Singh, whom the Law Society of Upper Canada disbarred after finding him guilty of professional misconduct.

Ben Johnson certainly created more heartache for Canadians than anything Steve Fonyo ever did. But that aside, Johnson got caught cheating in a sport where it is alleged that most elite athletes do cheat. Fonyo committed assaults and fraud. Fonyo wins hands down.

Perhaps Conrad Black and Garth Stravinsky SHOULD have been stripped of their orders of Canada before Fonyo was.

I don't know if it matters who was stripped first, just being on that list is shame enough.
