I want to know what a Alouette is?

wikipedia says
" Alouette" is a popular Canadian children's song about plucking the feathers off a skylark - a small bird"

Is an alouette then a childrens song or a small bird that gets its feathes plucked off?

From wikipedia en francais:

"Le terme alouette est le nom vernaculaire donné à certains oiseaux passériformes de la famille des alaudidés."

Or, roughly:
The term alouette is the common name given to certain passerine birds (songbirds) of the family alaluidae (larks).

So alouette is French for lark, essentially. Now you know why they're sometimes referred to as The Larks.

Actually, an Alouette is not a lark or any other bird.
Real CFL fans know it is French for Roughriders.

Well there is Max Klinger's favourite team, the Toledo Mud Hens.
Toronto sportswriter Dick Beddoes called the Blue Jays the Toronto Turkeys in their early days of being a crappy expansion team (a couple of years after he called the WHA Toronto Toros the Toronto Lawn Mowers)

As a turkeyish aside, for those who haven't seen the latest Sarah Palin video making the rounds:

Giving a pardon to a turkey and thus saving it from a Thanksgiving table; apparently something that Bush started which doesn't surprise me. And for someone who supposedly went out and shot herself her own moose she seems pretty squeamish actually walking around the enclosure amongst the birds (though being dressed in those heels and nylons isn't the best way to hang around a farm). But the best part of it is the activity in the background while she's doing an interview.

All I know is that an Allouette is an almost guaranteed GC, should you face them. Ask the BC Lions 2006, 2000, and of course their predecessor the Stallions of 1994.

The bird is stuffed head-first into the cone, which holds the body steady, and while the head is protruding from the hole at the tip of the cone he cuts the head off. Apparently it takes quite a while for all the blood to drain into that big red tub.
