Re: Mike Bell
We can only use one import RB, and we have two, so why get Bell?
Re: Mike Bell
If you are getting rid of Smith, you need a competent backup that is getting minimum CFL salary. If either Terrence Whitehead or Mike Bell provide the insurance that Wally is obviously looking for, don't expect to see Smith around much longer, IMO.Tighthead wrote:We can only use one import RB, and we have two, so why get Bell?

Hey, it's not like learning the Lions running plays is very hard. They are using too few plays to be concerned about a new guy fitting in fast.Rammer wrote:If you are getting rid of Smith, you need a competent backup that is getting minimum CFL salary. True that, however I think it is more if he has talent. Being able to shift/block/catch and most importantly hold onto the ball.Toppy Vann wrote:Hey, it's not like learning the Lions running plays is very hard. Yea, thats one of the main probs with the leos o. Too vanilla, teams kno what they are gonna do before they do it most of the time....tho i doubt we'll see bell now that whitehead has been signed.

Precisely ! How difficult is it to learn off left tackle, off right tackle and diddle, diddle, straight up the middle ?Toppy Vann wrote:Hey, it's not like learning the Lions running plays is very hard. Re: Mike Bell
He is recent NFL cut and is on the Lions negotiation list.
Re: Mike Bell
If Bell was any good, why was he released before the preseason? Most of the best NFL prospects are kept until the final cutdown day. Did Whitehead even make an NFL training camp this year? We already have the CFL's top rusher on our roster, like 1600 yds and 18 td's last year. Plus Joe hardly ever fumbles, is a good pass blocker, isn't prone to mental mistakes, never complains (except maybe about his dead bean plants.) , etc, etc. I guess we can only hope S. Logan can stay healthy for another 13 games.
Bell or Whitehead will likely be a step down in every category compared to Joe, other than they will probably sign for the league minimum. This reminds me of the Lions futile search for a competant receiver, then they let Thelwell go for nothing. If this is a salary cap issue, why did the Lions sign Joe to lucrative long-term deal this season?

Re: Mike Bell
Our Leos signed Joe Smith to a lucrative contract because he ran for so many yards last season, led the league in touchdowns scored, and our running attack was the key reason our offence scored the most touchdowns and the most points in the league last year.No Ka Oi wrote:If Bell was any good, why was he released before the preseason? However, our Leos also did not anticipate they would find a tailback with the talent of Logan or that our running attack, so powerful last season, would struggle this season...a combination of our running scheme being vanilla and CFL defenses onto it and also because our offensive line blocking has not been as effective (heck...we've struggled to get less than half a yard on a quarterback sneak)
Joe is around right now due for his depth, because Logan has struggled from his days of college with a nagging high ankle sprain, and because we didn't have an adequate backup if Logan got hurt. Our Leos will audition players throughout the season at tailback. If we find one who can fill the bill (all will be cheaper) Smith will be let go. If not, we'll keep looking until that person arrives. Whitehead may or may not be the answer.
Bell was let go early in training camp because he showed up out of shape!

We've struggled on almost every QB sneak , with less then a yard to go , but we do give them up pretty easy though , don't we ?Blitz wrote:[ (heck...we've struggled to get less than half a yard on a quarterback sneak)
