If you're looking for a good football read over the Christmas season try Playing for Pizza by John Grisham. He usually writes legal thrillers but branches off into football once in a while. A few years ago he wrote Bleachers which was good too.
Playing for Pizza is about a washed-up NFL quarterback who finds his way to playing on a team in Italy. I'm about half way through and really enjoying it. It's a 2007 book. I got it in the library but I've seen it in the book stores too.
And of course Bobby Ackles' book, The Water Boy, is great too. Especially the last part of the book where he deals with all the stuff that happened in the last few years. He had a book signing a couple of days before the Grey Cup game in Toronto. Nice guy. Took time to chat with people.

I read this months ago..best football book ever. Not really a typical John Grisham book, but it was an awesome read. Whenever I'll be in Italy, I want to see Parma play.

If it's a library book, be careful you don't get any pizza sauce on it.SJ46 wrote:Playing for Pizza is about a washed-up NFL quarterback who finds his way to playing on a team in Italy. I got a BC Lions: The First 50 Years book today, and my dad got it personally signed for me by Bobby Ackles.
Congratulations on getting such a great X'mas gift, ThreeTimesOneMinusOne. Perhaps just like your Edmonton trip, you can scan and post for us some of your favourite pages from the book.ThreeTimesOneMinusOne wrote:I got a BC Lions: The First 50 Years book today, and my dad got it personally signed for me by Bobby Ackles.

As did I - not usually big on bios, but Bobby's football history makes a fascinating read.
