Geroy Whining Again!!

I just watched Global Sports and there was a review of yesterday's game with the players in the dressing room. Most are still shocked and the reality hasn't set in according to most players.

There was criticism that it was obvious, with our inability to control the line of scrimmage on offence in the second half why we didn't take Dickenson out and go with a more mobile quarterback...something that most of us have said.

However, Geroy is still moaning about losing Chapdelaine. He said he knew when Jaques left, "we had to change some things but why change everything when it was working" Huh? We led the league in scoring for most of the season while going with three different quarterbacks. We won 14 games and tied one. Our problem wasn't that we changed the offence. Our problem was that we changed back too much to our old offence at the end of this season and in yesterday's Western Final.

Most psychological studies of football players show that receivers are the most selfish players on a football team. I couldn't believe what Geroy said! We only ran the football 8 times yesterday. We ran the old crossing patterns of The Chap offence. We went single back set almost all game. We had Dickenson, Geroy's favorite quarterback last season, playing quarterback in the second half. We couldn't get Geroy the football just like we couldn't get Geroy the football in the Grey Cup last year, with The Chap coaching!!

It was Geroy's attitude that hurt our offence in the first half of the season. He sulked and moaned!! He was happy for a while, when he was getting the ball thrown to him a ton at the end of the season. We started throwin to him again, mostly because he started playing hard again. We lose and he starts whining again. A total lack of leadership from a vet. You win as a team and lose as a team. He wasn't moaning about the offence when he was having his big games in the second half of the season. I love Geroy's talent but he's a "it's all about me kind of player"!

As for 'Jaques" he really showed what his offence could do in Edmonton. He's gone because the players there couldn't stand him and couldn't stand his offence. Of course they never ran the football at all in Edmonton and I know Geroy would love that. Less runs means more opportunities for throws to him. Forget about Joe Smith. Just throw me the ball. Well, we tried to throw it to him, when we could yesterday, and he was covered big time!! :thdn:

I'm not pleased at all with his comments!!!

It's all so loathsome...

But the Football Gods deem it so!

Sorry...this was Geroy's exact quote:

"All year we struggled on offence and it all caught up to us"! :x :x

If he wasn't so talented I'd love to trade him to wherever The Chap ends up but Geroy might not be elibible, due to his age, for a high school football team!

I can't believe you are gonna start on the Geroy bashing. He tells it like it is. Can u really say the offence wasn't struggling? You can post the offence points stat all you want. I think there were alot of weak offensive efforts all around the league, but I definitely noticed the Lions offensive struggles. The defence helped that alot, and points were scored by them and special teams. I saw them having to settle for fieldgoals alot more than they should have.
I don't know why some of you get on Geroy like you do. I think you are blowing that way out of proportion. Just like alot of you did when you thought he said something negative on the sidelines after his game winning catch in Sask. Then it turns out you were wrong in what he had said, but not before about 3-4 pages of bashng.

I heard a quote this morning where he said all year they were inconsistent on offence, and it caught up to them yesterday. I think that is reasonable.

I agree. Despite the fact we led the league in points and had the leading receiver and rusher, our offence still was inconsistent for the majority of the season and it was one of the things most people discussed over the course of the year. I don't see this as whining, I see this as Geroy pulling no punches and actually telling us what we already knew.

I wouldn't call 9 wins out of 10 games inconsistent.

Nobody is bashing Geroy, we just would appreciate him keeping his criticism to himself and not the media.

You can win games with an inconsistent offence. Those are two different issues. When he said inconsistent, he wasn't criticising anyone, just saying that they failed to execute in a consistent manner.

Special teams and turnovers went a long, long way to giving us a short field on a lot of our points this year.

He's right in that we were inconsistent on offense. We did get a lot of help, particularly early in the season before our defensive injuries caught up to us, from the defense. Special teams put us in good field position as well.

The design of the offense and it's evolution from last year was pretty good. The problem was, for the bulk of the year, it was being executed by a first string QB whose talents aren't suited for it, or by a third string QB who, at the end, was a third string QB for a reason, and an OC by committee. Plus, frankly, while the design was pretty good, the execution of the play calling wasn't, as we've discussed extensively.

Chap is most assuredly not the answer, as anyone who observed Edmonton this season, or BC in 2005, will tell you. So on that point, I'll politely disagree with Geroy. DD doesn't seem to understand that defenses have his preferred scheme figured out. JC82 probably does, because he's the one running the underneath crossing pattern and getting nearly decapitated in the process. Why? Because, as we saw two years ago in the WDF, teams have that offense figured out.

That said, it rankles football fans, like myself, when criticism of this nature (particularly that part about missing an assistant coach who left of his own accord at the expense of the current person or persons in the position) is made public. Is it whining? Well, that depends on your definition. I don't necessarily think so, but I'm a believer of praise in public and punish/criticize in private, so I understand why some people react the way they do when these things happen.

Geroy likes Chap's offence because deep down he likes blocking blitzing linebackers.

I go along the "This isn't whining POV". There is nothing wrong in what he said and he was absolutely bang on. Our offense was probably the weakest 3rd of our team this season. If our defense and special teams hadn't performed as they did, it is doubtful we would have had the record we did.
