Wally loses it!

http://rodpedersen.blogspot.com/

I TOLD you Carm Carteri's more wound up for this game Rider game in Vancouver tomorrow than any other time in our nine years together.

While awaiting the Pats' pregame meal, by Blackberry started buzzing and it was Carm. He was losing his mind, and could hardly contain himself.

He'd just left Wally Buono's day-before-the-game news conference where Wally tried to expose and embarrass Carm before the assembled masses.

If you've been following along on the blog, Carm ripped the Lions on a Vancouver radio station Friday morning saying they're dirty, Jason Jimenez shouldn't be playing Sunday, and of course he touched on the crowd noise issue.

Wally opened his newser by pointing out Carm saying he's got a big mouth and should keep it shut.

What ensued was about a 10-minute jaw-jacking session between the two which was all caught on camera. It'll be on Sportscentre tonight. TSN requested an interview with Carm but he told them to beat it.

Carm said to Wally that if he thinks Jiminez should play on Sunday, then he's condoning his players hurting opposition players. Wally didn't have an answer for that one, allegedly.

Wally asked Carm is he'd seen the hit, and he said no but enough people from the Stamps had informed him. The Lions seem to be hiding behind the fact there's no video of the hit that broke the leg of Gargulio.

It should be pointed out that Carm and Wally go back a long way. Wally was Carm's position coach with the Montreal Concordes in the early 80's. They always rib each other and poke you-know-what at each other but today it got messy. And personal.

Again, as I wrote Friday, this is not the same Lions team as years past. Why in heck does Wally care what Carm thinks? Talk about being distracted and worried about the wrong things! This was an orchestrated cheapshot by the head of the Lions but it backfired on him. I'm sure he didn't count on Carm standing up to him because nobody else ever does.

The Riders are going to win this game.

Carm told me he wished he'd told Wally to deal with this like a man and do it one-on-one privately, not in front of the TV cameras and all of the nations reporters.

Carm, I just told him for you.

I caught this on Regina CTV, it seemed to be a lot less than what is being offered up on the blog, but I guess it was edited. Still if that is all the Rider highlights from it, I have to say that it isn't much....lol

I saw it on TV and Wally asked him who told him . He refused to say who , he did not say it was someone from Calgary. Good for Wally for standing up to the BS being tossed his way. Carm did come off looking like he didn't know what he was talking about , just going on hearsay like so many others .

I haven't seen it yet... waiting for the TSN story... probably no more to it than Stegall's "confrontation" with an ex-CHLer-turned-reporter last week... much ado about nothing...
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Saw the interview. Wally clearly got the better of Carteri. Two thumbs up for Wally defending his players.

Wally and Carm used to coach together. They were good friends. Jiminez shouldn't be playing, he wrecked a guy's career. Perhaps Wally a little insecure coming out firing like that. He looks like Ron Jeremy with that facial hair. Serious compare the 2.

Wally owned Carteri at the press conference.
Wally asked Carm is he'd seen the hit, and he said no but enough people from the Stamps had informed him.
Wally said to name the players who said it is a dirty hit. Carm wouldn't devulge that info. Wally followed with

"Same old bull**** right, hide behind someone elses skirt.

Carm: "What if it happened to one of your player's?"

Wally: "It did you goof it did, Dave Dickenson."

Carm will probably not be on Wally's christmas card list this year.

Im not so sure wally got the better of Carm. Personally I thought they both looked like idiots...Wally shouldnt have brought this up at a presser either in front of everyone. If he has a beef with carm, say it to him personally. I thought Wally was above all this stuff. Im quite surprised Wally is even focusing any attention on this kinda stuff.

Anyhow thats just my opinion....you can all chastize me now for being a rider fan and having a biased view. I dont in this situation actually. I think both have valid points, but as I said, Jiminez is playing tomorrow, so why cant everyone just move on and let the league deal with it. If the Riders were in the same position, I would have a hard time believing that KA would not allow a player to go through the appeal process all the same. Its a fault with the CFL and CFLPA...so whatever.

I've been in the media for 15 years, it was a draw. The fact that Wally lost it speaks volumes.

Should Perry be playing? He could very well have ended DD's career. No, you say? Why? Because that was a legal hit? How do you know that Jiminez's hit was not also legal. As Wally asks your radio guy, "Have you seen it?" Do you know anyone who has? Anyone? What did they tell you. Please arrange for that person to tell the rest of us.

Thank you.
Enough is enough.

carm carteri...you know...arguably the best radio color guy in all of the CFL? If you dont know who he is ask Julio Caravatta...he will tell you how great Carm is and how well respected he is around all teams and media circles alike.

And yeah we have plenty to do with this province. Im guessing you've never been out here. Thats aside, why is it bad for Carm, who is a media guy to question wally at all about this issue? Why are you on the defensive. I dont get it. Its his job.

Watch the Perry hit over and over and over again. How is the player that Jiminez injured doing?

Thanks
