‘Twas the night before game day and all through the site
Not a creature was stirring, ‘cept for us, up all night.

The noise makers were hanging, black and orange of course,
For the Lions and Riders, not Stamps or Eskimos.

The Lions, Riders: Respect they have earned.
The Wests no pushover, others have learned.

The Lions and Riders: They’ve been here before
With fans by the busload at the dome’s door.

Two teams, highly ranked, best in the west
The fans all awaiting for kickoff to arrive

With bragging rights and a Grey Cup birth at stake
The players, they rested. The fans, still awake.

The party begins at the tailgate at dawn
Some camped by their trailers, some sat on the lawn.

This, Western Final comes alive once a year
For football and game day, which already draws near.

the domes gates, they all opened, the fans poured inside.
They all took their seats with their eyes opened wide.

When at once, from inside there arose such a sound
That blew through the dome as it rattled the ground

The teams, they both entered to the fireworks and bands.
Even those from Regina couldn’t sit on their hands.

The players warming up for their moments of fame
Heard quarterbacks bark signals and call out their names.

On Jackson, on Smith! On Clermont and Simon!
On Johnson, on Marsh, on Wake, Phillips and Floyd!

The season moves too quickly, one team is soon to be done
Can the team in black and orange get the game won ....

to be continued

Careful Derek you may get accused of fancying yourself a master word-smith, a bad outtake from a Jim Morrison recording session or worse yet, Shakespeare in the Park tonight!

If the spirit moves you, it would be an extra special Christmas gift to all of us, if our guys can keep hold of the Cup for one more season.

Keep the bragging rights, I'll take the win!
