Rob Murphy on Team 1040 this morning

I just caught the end of this interview with Murphy. Anyone else hear it?

He said Wally's never told him to change his style of play. Also said he will likely be appealing his fine.

He also mentioned he told the commissioner that at the end of the game with the Riders, he and Chick shook hands. As in, no hard feelings, it's part of the game.

He did mention how frustrating it's getting for him with the officials seeming to look for a reason to throw a flag....one game, the official was reaching for his flag before Murphy even did anything. As Rintoul said, they're punishing him for being intimidating.

He's the kind of guy every other team gripes about, but would have him on their own team in a heartbeat.

A great guy.

That was pretty much the main context of what was said. Although he did give the leagues legal statement on his fine. Along the lines of his conduct being intimidating, which is one reason why he is appealing the fine, and hasn't heard from Rodgers yet, but will being the Lions player rep.

Yes I heard the whole interview.

He started off reading the letter he received from the CFL explaining why he was being fined. The letter said he was guilty of using "intimidation", and that his intimidation was beyond what normally takes place on the football field. No mention of a choke hold or anything else. Just that he is too intimidating.

He said he would be appealing the fine through the CFLPA lawyer.

He then basically said he is playing the same as last year (actually better than last year), but the difference this year is that players from other teams started whining about him.

Intimidating. As a linesman, i'd take pride in that!

Murphy also said that he likes playing Saskatchewan, and that after the game he shook hands with Chick, Perry, etc, and there were no hard feelings.

I think the complaining from Regina is more from management than anywhere else. The players don't have a problem with Murphy.

The only player to call Murphy "dirty" was Rahim Abdullah from Edmonton. Other comments have come from management types like Tillman and Popp.

I don't know the full story in Regina but it appears that Schultz and Chick have not commented at the request of the team, so I don't know if there are no hard feelings or not. I suspect Tillman has partially expressed views of his players to limit their exposure to league scrutiny. Better to have only the GM fined than 2 players might be the strategy

Tillman knows Murphy is an integral part of the team. He was trying to get him suspended, period.

Abdullah started all this crap, and the rest of the league has tried to use it to their advantage, and now it's become a propaganda circus.

Maybe one day someone will clue in that all this does is fire Murphy up to dominate even more than he does.

I agree 100% with orangeshoes99. Tillman's made more of this then anyone else. I just think that the rest of the league is just getting tired of going up against Murphy and Jiminez so there starting to whine about it. Other then Abdullah, who because of his actions is out of a job now, no other player has come out and said anything. The GM's such as Popp and Tillman are trying to make something out of nothing. It's all a way to get more penalties called on the lions, especially the o line. I also thought that Tillman was being a piss ant for shying away from Rintoul's question yesterday morning. When faced with the stats he couldn't back up his claim.

Well according to Murphy they shook hands after the game. He also said Fred Perry was one of his biggest fans.

The strategy from Tillman seemed to be to blow it up as big as he could so that he could try and squeeze as many suspensions and fines as possible out the situation. Players saying there were no hard feelings or that they had respect for Murphy does not help Tillman's cause.

Lions starters missing games gives Tillman's Riders a bit of help in getting back into first place. Seems like Tillman's effort would be better served improving his football team. He is using a diversion tactic with the fans. Bringing attention to how dirty other teams are might ease the pressure that is no doubt building after 3 straight losses.

that sentence there is key. I can say for example Solar Max is one of my biggest fans, does it mean he actual said it? If the riders have been gag ordered as I have heard (So say solar was gag ordered) we do not know for fact that Perry said what Murphy hassaid, or me int he case I present. Its easy to speculate what is going on but unless the Rider players come forward I suspect we really don't know if there is no hard feelings or 'respect" for Mr. Murphy as he implies.

naw now that we know the Lions use UFC (real fighting closed fists) tactics, the Riders will get away frm the WWE (fake, purely entertainment) stuff and start to really fight back

Kind of tough for defenseless diabetics to put up a fight, isn't it?
