Stokes goes to Montreal, and Karikari goes to Toronto. Stokes reminds me alot of Cahoon in size, but has a better agility. Still he has been knicked lately and Kharikari is an NI DB. Seems to me that TO almost needed to unload a returner, so I think that Montreal overpaid in this deal.

Karikari is a young non-import starting DB.
Stokes is an older import return specialist.
Toronto got the better deal.

Good deal for the Argos who are a little thin on Canadian talent with an aging O'Shea.

The Als have an ambundance of Canadians having started 10 in the Grey Cup game.
Maybe a case of Karikari's potential contract demands being out of place with the SMS kicking in although Stokes is making 100K plus if I am not mistaken.

Guess this was behind the Clifford Ivory release as well. Toronto wins this deal hands down. Stokes' best days are behind him, he had fumblitits at times, and can't start at receiver, or has not been able to find a team williing to do so anyway.

Toronto looks to be clearing space to make a run at appearing in their own GC game...

My gut instinct is like everyone elses regarding Toronto winning the deal, but Jim Popp is a crafty SOB, and a pretty ruthless old hand with talent, much like Buono. Keep in mind that this is the guy who had no problem trading Matt Kellett to Ottawa, knowing full well that Kellett was still having eye problems. Just something to keep in mind should Karikari all of a sudden go lame in training camp with some undeclared, yet chronic injury...

For some reason, Karikari had fallen out of favour with Popp - still, I would take a starting NI for a returner, any time.

I agree with you Lionut, except Kellet had a pretty good season that year with Ottawa.

Question: Why would Montreal even want Stokes?

Not only is he overpaid for his production and old, but Montreal has Landry for returns and a stable of receivers. This makes no sense.

It's like if the Ottawa Senators traded Kalinin for Bobby Holik.

Landry was hurt last season. There was speculation that he might return for the end of the season, but I'm guessing this trade means he is likely done and not coming back.
Now that I don't live in Quesnel do I need to change my handle??

Karikari is paid more than 175k/ per....so i don't know about the term "getting rid of". Stokes was rumored to be 120K.

Perhaps more like "getting younger".
I'd love you to say it to my face because you'd only say it once...if you ever had the courage to say it at all!! Blitz, 05/24/2008
