The Lions are beating themselves, Calgary is not playing like defending champs. Tedford needs to get Manny involved, Rainey needs to stop running east-west and Washington needs to start exploiting the banged up Calgary O-line. When the hell was the last time 2 d-linemen had to fill in on an offensive line?!?!

Yeah, but Harris has the character of the Hulk, whereas Messam has the character of The Invisible Man.bigtooth wrote:Messam is the Hulk. Harris is a shadow of him.
There's a reason Jerome has had a vagabond career.

Stubler will blitz the hell out of Lulay in the second half....knowing Travis will try to run or escape pressure if his first read isn't there. We'll need to release Harris ..Lulay is good at finding him out of the backfield.maxlion wrote:No Jennings = No hope
Calgary didn't outplay us in the first half. They just played smart and didn't make mistakes. One interception, one fumble, dum penalties and we're down 24-6.
Stubler sure knows Cortez's tendencies. When we were second and two, in the first quarter, we went spread (dum) and Stubler blitzed Bell and he shut down Harris on the play. Calgary was jumping routes all over the place...good tape work by Stubler.
We need some big plays to get us back into this game.

Safe to say the turning point is the Raymond interception and the subsequent Harris fumble
ST is a wash so far. Has had no impact on the game either way. Dropped passes, porous defense, turnovers are the difference.Larry Key wrote:No ST, no hope. We have a guy like Rainey who can bust it anytime yet our coaching/execution on ST is atrotious.
We need to quit getting flagged on returns, for starters.Larry Key wrote:No ST, no hope. We have a guy like Rainey who can bust it anytime yet our coaching/execution on ST is atrotious.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.
You're right. I overlooked that in my comments.sj-roc wrote:We need to quit getting flagged on returns, for starters.Larry Key wrote:No ST, no hope. We have a guy like Rainey who can bust it anytime yet our coaching/execution on ST is atrotious.

If the Lions have a trick play they have been siting on that would spring Rainey, now is the time to do it! Time to bring out the Deperation Playbook, screw caution, screw playing not to lose, screw Cortez's asleep at the switch play calling and screw Washington overthinking it.
Attack! Attack! Attack!
Attack! Attack! Attack!
