Re: Official CFL Draft Thread, May 3, 2012

Taman has declared that the Riders will draft Ben Heenan first.

Apparently Tillman tried to trade up but did not succeed. I kind of enjoy this as Tillman is under a lot of pressure to make good on his first round picks, due to the fire sale of Ricky Ray. I expect he would like to pick Shamawd Chambers, but he is going to an NFL tryout camp.

However things shake out, it is fun and interesting.

A couple of D Line and a receiver would be good for the Lions.

The draft looks very, very deep in talent to me.

Hey WCJ, do you have a wish list for the Lions draft slots? I'm personally hoping for 2 defensive linemen and an O-lineman. Preferably Pasztor, Adebayo and Gascon-Nadon of everything falls into place. Although if Chambers is there at 7, it would be tempting but I think our WR depth is quite good for now.

D Line ... I would be very happy if the Lions scored a couple of top rated guys here. We really only need them for depth, as rotation players, but that need is huge, especially if we go with 6 D Linemen, as I hope we will.

And I hope we do not go the gamble route, guys with NFL interest. It is both annoying and a sign of great Canadian depth and talent that the NFL is picking off guys like Crawford, Bilukidi, possibly Adebayo. Annoying that we lose them, but encouraging for the future that we are producing so much talent.

So that leaves Jabar Westerman, Pall, Cipicciotti, Gascon-Nadon, (Jake Thomas, Michael Atkinson, Hasan Hazime ... later rounds).

Bo Adebayo would have to be a gamble now. Lots of NFL interest methinks. Even as an ST guy.

I like Johnny Aprile and Ismael Bamba as receivers.

Very deep draft for talent.

Pasztor and Chambers are gambles (NFL interest).

Gahhh you're right about Pasztor. I think the Vikings scooped him up.

For some reason I'm really high on Gascon-Nadon. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that Westerman has received NFL interest too? If not then he would definitely be someone to target, perhaps at 4. His brother is also in the draft as a receiver.

So what player is Winnipeg hot after?

O Line? Pasztor? Not so sure this is a good move on Peg's part ... lots of gambles amongst the top rated players.

Interesting that Ham. just signed Giguere, a pick from 2008. I guess one could say that gamble finally paid off.

If Wpg can swing a deal with Ham, they are interested in Westerman or Plesius (I think Edmonton is going to take Plesius though).

Justin Dunk's mock draft ... (prior to possible trade between Peg and Ham) ...

SRR ... Heenan

Edm ... Plesius

Ham/Peg ... Pasztor

BC ... Westerman

Cal ... Fabien

Edm ... Chambers

BC ... Aprile
.................

I would be happy with those picks for us. And I would be happy if Chambers secured a spot in the NFL ... LOL

If godd**m Ham/Peg takes Westerman, we might as well gamble in the first round by taking Adebayo or Bilukidi. Then take Pall.

To nobody's surprise the Riders took Ben Heenan as the 1st overall pick.

The guy I have been touting for the Lions for a few weeks, Jabar Westerman, seems to have shot up the team lists.

I will be a bit ticked off if Winnipeg selects him, but he would be a rotation player anyway. Lots of good picks out there.

Re: Official CFL Draft Thread, May 3, 2012

Ya know what? I think there is a chance Rob Meier will not get a chance down south, as no NFL team will sign him. And I think he wants to play football.

How would that be if he signed with the Lions? Not for the money, but the love of the game, and the camaraderie.
